To be fair: As much of a scumbag as Madoff is, the only thing that truly sets him apart from the people he stole from was that he was willing to steal from people living on the same side of the tracks as he does.

It tells us a lot about certain sects of our society that Madoff is as notorious as he is when he could've done the same thing to poor or middle class people and no one would know his name.

This is supposed to be a nice apolitical thread about who died. Nasty posts that are off topic really belong in the million political threads where people actually seek a place to insult each other and feel self righteous. (For awhile I was deluded enough to think people went there to learn something but eventually the naiveté wore off :p )

I was saying bad things about the Wall St. and banking types that make up the bulk of Madoff's victims, instead of admiring them for being job creators or some such nonsense. I think that's all I needed to do.

That I compared their victimhood to that of the bulk of the rest of the country (side note: Wall St is probably still laughing its collective *** off for how little consequence they have to pay for how bad things got in 2008)... well, that was probably just a cherry on top.

In either case, Madoff is still scum and the list of people feeling sorry for him is shorter than Bea Arthur's *****, and I'm an idiot for starting this tangent. Back to discussing the dead...

I gave up on the politico threads.. For awhile people actually had something intelligent to say. Last I looked it was rabidly drooling extremists hammering at each other. Waste of energy I don't have. :p
