Dead Thread - 2020

Re: Dead Thread - 2020

Kep: if you have seen Robin Hood many times, see if you can find the scene in which there is a car shooting by in the background (for about 1/16th of a second). i love finding stuff like that!!

That is awesome! Never knew about it.

You have to stare to see it as it goes by so quickly. i love finding stuff like that in films. Like the kid sticking his fingers in his ears just before Eva Marie Saint fires the blank pistol at Cary grant in North By Northwest! Or the cruise ship in the background of the latter scenes in the Crimson Pirate (with Burt Lancaster) which you can watch on TCM tomorrow I believe. First pirate movie I saw as a kid and must have viewed in 100 times and never saw the obvious mistake until 50 years later.

Youtube lets you slow down the play speed to 0.25x. So its easy to see it go past in the last scene.

Re: Dead Thread - 2020

There is a famous slip in a viking movie where a 747 is in the background. I thought it was the Lancaster/Curtis The Vikings but apparently not.

My favorite anachronism is in Shakespeare:
(Clock strikes)

Brutus. Peace! count the clock.
Cassius. The clock hath stricken three.

Julius Caesar, Act II Scene 1

There were no clocks with any "striking" component until well over 1000 years after this scene takes place.

Henri Richard, 84

I met him at a banquet where he was the keynote speaker. A very humble man who never escaped the shadow of his more famous brother, Maurice. His son, who is a Montreal Firefighter, told me he was the only person who did not care about the comparison between him and Maurice. He was just happy that they were both successful.

Kenny Rogers - and the Last Edition

Met Rogers and the band when our high school broadcasting class went to tapings of their show at the CTV studios in Toronto. Also got to see Tina Turner in her prime do Proud Mary from about 30 feet away. YOWZA!

A college buddy and I sneaked into an Ike and Tina Turner concert and were able to get right up to the stage. Electric energy. Wasn't aware then what a POS Ike was.

Re: Dead Thread - 2020

Hard to believe that Tina Turner's 80 now.

When I was first in practice there was a movement to make domestic violence against the law. I remember her revealing and that was huge to a lot of my patients

I remember conservatives opposing that as a governmental intrusion into the family. Just like they argued a husband could not, by definition, rape his wife.

They have always been like this. There is a vital piece missing in their brains.

I lived in an area that was a bit more liberal and this was mind boggling. It was a shock to the system, like they had never considered it before. Now they did, they had to think about it. A lot of them had no argument for why it should be OK but they just knew it wasn't something anyone did anything about
