Dead Thread - 2020

Re: Dead Thread - 2020

I have less than 50 yrs but I concur. I used to tell patients they want to figure out how to work their new phone but when you try to talk about their body-EEEEWWWW! You own your body, all parts, not just the parts that stickout of your shirt and pants on a cold day.

In these more modern times I am seeing a lot more parts sticking out of their shirts and pants than I care to! It does make it a bit easier to do a physical exam at times;)

Re: Dead Thread - 2020

Goes without saying he was a fabulous swimmer and had all the girls swooning with his muscular build and rather risque bathing suit (for that time).

And some of the boys.

Goes without saying he was stacking the girls two at a time in the bathhouse.

And some of the boys, perhaps.

Sniff. A simpler time.

DEATH to MING!!!!!

One of the best parts of The Princess Bride is how as a kid the author was entranced by Saturday adventure serials where the pretty girl was menaced by Ming who had in mind the ultimate fiendish desire: to marry her!

You ever see the documentary
Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood?

About this guy Scotty, who came to Hollywood after serving in WWII, took a job at a gas station on the strip, and then made his living setting up closeted Hollywood stars with young gay men. Or not necessarily gay men. As Scotty told them, just close your eyes and pretend its your girlfriend.

Kenneth Anger - Hollywood Babylon (start with volume I and just read the entire series)

Kep: Thanks for the fabulous pictures. And all these years i thought the kid's name was Cubby! I think the autograph I have is from 1956-57. I knew he had played Tarzan and Buck Rogers and Flash Gorden and had been in a gazillion westerns and was a bit starry eyed. But he was just a regular guy who was gracious and grateful that people recognized him and asked for his autograph. Goes without saying he was a fabulous swimmer and had all the girls swooning with his muscular build and rather risque bathing suit (for that time).

Doc

Cubby was on the Mickey Mouse Club.

And speaking of Ming's daughter - Princess Ardala on "Buck Rogers" (Gil Gerard / Erin Grey in spandex version) was a 15 on a scale of 1-10.

With not much else available to do today - have been watching old movies and I must say, Rita Hayworth is still very near the top of my list. Just watched her dance the "Shorty George" with Fred Astaire and what ever 'It' is, she had it!!

Re: Dead Thread - 2020

On the TCM site, watching 1939 "Gullivers Travels"

Joe: I recorded a bunch of stuff off that channel over the past week or two just to be prepared for being shut in by all of this. have Adventures of Robin Hood (Errol Flynn version), Samson and Delilah (Hedy Lamarr can visit me any time!!), You Were Never Lovelier (OMG can Rita dance!!), Gunga Din (Fabulous casting!!), and Destination Tokyo (have to have at least one Cary Grant movie) to watch today. If this continues have the Magnificent Seven, Ben Hur, and Spartacus for tomorrow.
All of this escapist fare seems to me to be a lot better than listening to all the talking heads tell me 24/7 the same things over and over.

You're a better man than I, Dr. Demento.

Re: Dead Thread - 2020

I love that movie so much, but Olivia de Havilland is a lame Maid Marian.

Just think what they could have done with say Carole Lombard.

She may have been lame but she is still cooking in France as we speak. She and Flynn made about 8 movies together and I have seen them all. You mention Carole Lombard, liked her a ton with Victor Mature in 1 million BC. (Raquel Welch filled out that outfit better years later, but as a kid, had the hots for Lombard first)

Kep: if you have seen Robin Hood many times, see if you can find the scene in which there is a car shooting by in the background (for about 1/16th of a second). i love finding stuff like that!!

I have to go look at what old dvds/VHS tapes we have.
