Andy Marte has also died in an unrelated car accident in the DR the same day.

I have, say, 5% suspicion these are kidnapping murders for shakedowns that went south, maybe with local LEO implicated for the "accident" cover story. Of course if that's true they will never be honestly investigated.

Wow, that sucks about Ventura. I liked watching him pitch for sure.

I do enjoy the story of the lady looking on with the frown in the background of Mary's hat tossing shot. That woman was interviewed a few years ago, and said that she was worried the young lady throwing her hat was going to be hit by traffic. :)

It wasn't 2017, but New Year's Eve 2016. My friend for more than 30 years, Dave Baker, succumbed to his third bout with cancer. A true blue Dallas Cowboy fan, he watched them rack up double digit wins, but didn't have to suffer through another loss to the Packers in the big game. He wasn't really a hockey fan, but he did learn to live with my score updates, echoing call of SCORE! or G-O-A-L!, and the raucous, music blaring, renditions of D-rah, E-rah-N-rah, VER!

Dave, you are missed. Rest In Peace
