Understandable. The local police have a considerable database at their disposal. States have us ID'd and monitored with drivers licenses. The US has considerable information on us via the IRS (and likely other means). Licensed gun owners are also tracked. The balance of gun owners are not a big stretch from there.

I have to pass multiple background checks and have permission from US Customs just to go to work.

Did the President just call Fort Hood a "terrorist incident"?

Taking out Oil Tankers? I thought I read that we did not hit oil tankers due to environmental damage?

Did the President do a 180 calling it a "war" against ISIS/L?

The mental health excuse is such a bs red herring. Just because some people who commit these acts have mental issues doesnt mean everyone who does has one. That is just a way to brush aside the evil they did and how they carried it out. Cant blame the gun or the gun owner so blame their mental state, they must obviously be nuts!!! BTW are the Muslim terrorists mentally ill as well or just the white people?

Of course if they went on trial and plead insanity how many of you would be ok with that?

While mental health is a massive problem it is being used in this regard to deflect from the real problem guns and the people who are using them to kill others. Most of these politicians that are waiving the flag for better mental health and reforms will be nowhere to be found when votes on legislation are needed. (it isnt like people havent been trying to fund better care for mental illness the last 40 years...) They dont care...they are just making sure we dont talk about the actual gun problems cause then they would lose their awesome donations!!

(my gf works in treatment/mental health and her late brother was schizophrenic...this is something I hear about a lot)

It's part of the problem, one can't deny that.

We can't exactly deny guns to mentally healthy, clean-criminal-record adults based on religion (Christian, Muslim, or whatever) no matter how fanatic.....

Too many guns in circulation (legal or not) to make a ban feasible.

I dont want a ban...but if you dont think the proliferation of guns in this country is getting out of hand then I dont know what to tell you.

And again I am not saying that mental health isnt an issue, believe me I know all too well how big of an issue it is. It isnt the issue here as much as some would like us to think it is. It is being used as a shield, and excuse to not fix the real problems. Look at how the narrative has changed over the years. It is not exactly hard to see past the smokescreen. If people cared that much about mental health why arent they fighting to have more money be put into care and treatment? Do you think those same people would be willing to pay more taxes to help out those that cant help themselves? If you do I got a hockey arena on campus to sell you. They dont care about the mentally ill, they dont want to help them, they want to use them to further their agenda.

(the use of the straw man even after everyone here and even the Dems have said they dont want bans proves you actually dont have any real argument)

And gee, we highly regulate both driving (what is most people's standard ID called again? I forget) and alcohol sales.

If you want to treat guns the way we do cars, I'm all for it. Starting with photo IDs for all gun owners, liability insurance, having to pass a written and shooting test, etc.

If we really wanted to get drunk driving under control, we'd treat it the way most of Europe does. Look at the penalties for drinking and driving over there, and then look at what we have here. It's remarkable how few incidences they have versus what we have here.

I'm all for lifetime license bans for drunk driving. Some types of mistakes don't deserve 2nd chances.

I'm also all for id for voters, and gun owner id and certification.

Meh, a 22 year old guy who blows a .09 and isn't showing signs of intoxication other than his breath deserves to be treated differently than the guy with a .18 who can barely stand up straight and actually poses a danger.

I've said it before. I think our first offense OWI/DUI charges are generally overly harsh for the people who aren't any more dangerous than your standard teenage driver, like the .09 scenario above. I think the penalties for aggravated (like the .18 scenario) and/or repeat offenses are almost always way too lenient, however.

And the other problem is that outside of about 10 major cities, this country is not presently configured to handle people who can't drive. You revoke people's licenses for life, you better have a way to help then live if they're from bumblefark, Wyoming.

If the .09 got pulled over there was some thing that caused that.

Also, buy a bike, get a friend, move. Whatever you gotta do. Driving is not a basic right.
