Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

Re: Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

She didn't get a DQ; she got a game misconduct, which does not carry with it an automatic suspension.

I was under the impression that a five minute major and game misconduct mean't you were automatically suspended for the next game in college hockey. This obviously changed for the women; true for the men as well? When did this rule change go into effect?

Re: Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

Do you recall anyone serving a suspension for misconduct? I can recall Ruggiero and Piper getting suspended in their careers, but that's because they both got game DQs.

I remember the Ruggiero disqualification. She boarded an SLU player (five minute major) late in a game Harvard was winning and then complained about it which got her tossed. Again, I thought she got a misconduct and combined with the major penalty resulted in an automatic suspension. So that is why I'm a bit confused over why this Dartmouth player has been suspended for tomorrow's game. What is the difference between a game misconduct and a DQ?

Generally, the DQ, which results in having to sit the next game as well, is assessed when the officials deem the infraction to be severe enough to have either caused an injury or had the distinct potential to do so. I think an official may also be more inclined toward a DQ as opposed to a game misconduct if the individual in question is displaying a blatant disregard for the official's authority.

I am not an official though, so it's just my interpretation based on what I've observed / heard.

Anyone know? Is she suspended?

Is a LOT!

A. Tight game you lose a player at the end of the game when you are behind and thus become short handed as well.
B. You lose her for FIVE minutes.
C. It's the last five minutes of the game (I know was only about three and one half.)
D. You don't have her in OT.
E. OT goes nearly twenty minutes (and could have gone longer.)
F. You don't have her for the entire next -one game series in the league playoffs- game.

In recapping:
1.Tight game
2.You lose a player
3.At the end of the game
4.You are behind
5.Now you are short handed
6.She is gone for five minutes
7.It's the last five minutes of the game
8.You don't have her in OT
9.OT lasts almost twenty minutes
10.You don't have her for the entire next game
11.It's a one game series
12. It's the league playoffs

Who WAS the offending player (not name; as to a 'major' or 'minor', etc., figure in the league this year) and WHAT was her offense (maybe...)?

Would a major figure in the league have been called for such an offense at such a critical juncture?

[ You all KNOW I want to ask-if this were a player from the Ivy in the Bay State would it have been called? But I won't/currently am not asking. ]

Has such happened precisely as on this present occasion (or worse) ever before?

And I am a fan of our league's officials and credit the work they do so marvelously.
AND...no one is perfect and this why we have review boards, instant review on TV, etc. , ad infinitum.

Well I am NOT in the least a fan of the league's officials or the work they do...usually far less than marvelously it seems to me. Frankly the reffing in boys minor league hockey in our area is infinitely better, but I digress.

One would think and hope that the infraction would have to be pretty significant to be called as such in this situation, but anything is certainly possible given the above.

In my experience, regardless of an actual infraction, the most likely predictor of a penalty call in female hockey is because someone lost their balance and fell down. If they stayed down, it may then become a major.

To further answer the question you are not asking, I won't answer then that it would seem most plausible that it would be called, especially in the above-noted scenario, given the so-called Bay Staters are among the more highly penalized teams in their league.

Ruggiero didn't get suspended for the game you are talking about versus SLU. She got a major/game misconduct for a check from behind. She then played in Harvard's next game versus Dartmouth, and got a major and a DQ for kicking. Here is the schedule for that 2003-04 season if you want to verify the sequence of games.

Thanks. My memory isn't what it once was but I do remember the SLU game and her hit from behind. She really creamed the player and heard about it from Katey Stone after she complained about the call. Didn't realize that she played the next game and then got at DQ.

Re: Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

Mmm. Thanks, Trillium. Good to be up on stats. But it will be that eventually I will check and make sure, keep this honest, that you are correct. Great contest this evening...in the Bay State. Go Green Go.

Re: Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

Trunzo with two goals. Wish it were more than stats. Usually if one doesn't pay to see the game you get 'simulated'. Cant find any 'simulated'.

Re: Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

4-1 Dartmouth after 2 periods. Looking good, but still a lot of hockey to play! Looks to be a lot of Big Green fans in the stands.

Re: Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

Green wins! Holy Moly!
This small group of determined-at least, determined-wonderful young women!
Is remarkable.

Great congratulations for a job sooooo well done!

Re: Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

Congratulations to Dartmouth on a well-played game. You deserved to win. Good luck up in Ithaca. You'll need it because they should be foaming at the mouth after losing to you guys last month.

Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

Dartmouth returned from the north country January 15 with a 9/8 record after dropping two games away...at Clarkson and St Lawrence. With a win over UVM they began a 13/2 run. What brings such things about? Did someone (other than the Dartmouth principal poster) have something to prove?
