Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

Re: Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

I don't keep close track. I was surprised at UNH. My first thought was however (as to UNH), what is the 'spirit' there? What expectations do they have? What expectations do the coaches have? "Expectations" being a broad term here meaning more or less, "What up (at UNH)?" Such feels good in Hanover and keeps on rolling IMHO. Sooo that has been part of my point. Likely some will remember Waterman and Peter's book-"In Search of Excellence"? In it they said, findings showed, where best work was being done was where most fun was being had. Low key environment that let's folks do their own thing. So, where is they havin' a good time? Rockin' and a-reelin'?

Once again. HUH?

Re: Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

Do I agree with defensive defensemen nominees in ECAC? Is this more of the ingrained Crimson knee-jerk I speak of above (which can move about, by the way and may be on it's way to Ithaca)? Where is Nanji? Green has relatively high conference goals against-seventh. Was that Defense? Nanji first in goals (by defenseman), fourth in points, third in assists. Would a trip around the league be best to do by bus? Might be some locales I could fly to in ensuring that these ECAC coaches have all the facts, are cautious, judicious in their rankings. Does the selection of Fischer (defensive forward) relate? Do I have to constantly WATCH you guys?

I think Nanji qualifies as an offensive defenseman. I would be shocked if she is not a finalist for that award when it is announced.

Re: Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

Thank you-Matt. I wasn't aware there was an offensive defenseman award. Also in thinking about it, I withdraw suggestion as to connection with Fischer nomination. Way too suspicious sometimes. Yikes.

Now that would be the epitome of lobbying. :D

Re: Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

Sure, it was a miss, but I wouldn't classify the whole 2007 Dartmouth season as a failure based on one game. They did beat a SLU team that made the Frozen Four and a Harvard team with Chu and Vaillancourt for both the ECAC regular season and postseason titles. It's enough to make it a mixed bag, but not a failure.

And point still remains that based on 2008-2010 results and expectations for the next couple years, I still rate Dartmouth 5th or so out of 20 programs in the East and 2nd among the ones that were serious about their programs in 2000 (excluding BU, BC, Cornell).

Dave, Harvard didn't make it to the ECAC tournament final in '07. We lost to SLU in the semis.

:)"Juju". I'm checking, Julia ("The French Chef Cookbook"). Here on page 88 is something-try this, "Juju is served either hot or cold. But keep refrigerated until ready to serve/heat-employ. Spoils. Is odoriferous, lancet with branched stems, 3-divided laterally, Canescens lutea." And this from Britton and Brown (Page 201, Vol. 2), "Bumelia ludwigeantha-stinging bristly filaments; about twenty species (see, Cantabae vommitoria ait.)"

(Mmm?)

I do as usual like work ethic here with Green. Amanda again delivers during playoffs! So many working their hardest. When I was in Hanover, saw Big Red come play. Our women made themselves soooooo proud. Especially, this occasion, Jenna Hobeika; doesn't she WORK? At one point, say, WOULD NOT ALLOW Cornell to exit offensive zone. Again and again, falling down, sprawling and tumbling over kept puck moving in the direction SHE wanted it to go (toward Big Rad net!)

Terrific stuff!

Re: Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

Was SOME third period. Dartmouth lost a player to a major penalty-still don't understand major penalties; box score shows Dartmouth with four penalties for nineteen minutes (yeah, do the math.) Wha? If two minutes for each other penalty, leaves thirteen for major but write up says D. penalty was for five minutes. I was lead to believe the last time I inquired re this-by one of you all-that team not down man on major beyond two minutes (rest served by player being kept from playing for amount of penalty). Huh? Dartmouth WAS definitely short for last three plus minutes of third period. Pulled the goalie to stay even and then with less than a minute to go tied it up. Amazing!

Thirteen minute penalty on the Green (and they weren' t playing at the Bright.)

Re: Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

I don't know which box score you're looking at, but on collegehockeystats, and what I understood from the broadcast, is it was a 5-minute major and a 10-minute misconduct. No one serves any time for the misconduct/DQ/etc. Someone else needs to serve in the box for the whole length of the major because the player was ejected. That's all. 15 penalty minutes & the team is shorthanded 5 minutes.

Re: Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

I was looking at the box score on the college web site. Now I think I get it? Not soooo good at this techy stuff. So she served five (and wouldn't be allowed to play for fifteen as to the ten minute portion.) (BUT OT went eighteen?) Not sure about that.

Was, "ejected" and thus couldn't re-enter game ever (?) so some one else had to sit for her. Fifteen penalty minutes and then TWO other penalties, it must be, making thus therefore nineteen minutes total (THAT adds up for me.) Think more am getting it poco a poco.

Care to go another round?

Who's on first?

Thanks!

Pap's. 5 plus a 10 on the game sheet for an ejection is standard fare. Five is the Major, 10 is the Misconduct. If it comes along with a GM someone else serves the five and you are a goner. Just ask "Fiver", he'd know the drill :D. Ya Know..."fiver" is a "goner" :D :D

She wasn't coming back for that game and she won't be playing on Thursday night. A game disqualification carries with it an automatic one game suspension.

She didn't get a DQ; she got a game misconduct, which does not carry with it an automatic suspension.

Beat me to it! From the rule book:

b. A game misconduct penalty involves the suspension of a player, coach
or other non-playing persons for the balance of the game; however, a
substitute is permitted to replace a player immediately. The offending
player, coach or non-playing persons must leave the bench and playing
surface immediately and may not communicate with or contact team
personnel in any manner until the game is completed. Any contact with
game officials is prohibited.
Medical personnel cannot be assessed a game misconduct penalty.
A player who is assessed a game misconduct penalty is suspended for
the remainder of that game only.

See the Official Rule book

Re: Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

Thank you for the clarification - I too thought she would be ineligible for Thursday game.

Re: Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

I learned something too.

I would have thought a GM would be an automatic extra game missed, not just the balance of that game.

That's very different than the rules in place in Canada. Seems strange though...there is no disincentive then to taking a misconduct to get payback near/at the end of a game under these rules, assuming of course that your team has the game well in hand.

Re: Dartmouth women's ice hockey, 2010-2011

Well I guess the disincentive is that there's a chance you may be given a disqualification instead of a misconduct.
