Daniel Webster adding D-III varsity men's and women's hockey

Re: Daniel Webster adding D-III varsity men's and women's hockey

I always wondered why Daniel Webster didn't call themselves the Devils? :D

...
Although identified with the Boston aristocracy, Webster had come from a plain New Hampshire farm background. A college education, at Dartmouth, helped him to rise in the world. Despite his large income he remained constantly in debt as a result of high living, unfortunate land speculations, and expenses as a gentleman farmer.

How about one or more of these colleges start a program? I believe they are all D-3.

Univ of Rochester
Hartwick
St John Fisher
Ithaca

I'm wondering this as well. They'd have instant rivalries with Naz, Utica, Hobart and Elmira. Plus, they'd could fill the non-conference slate with the SUNY schools. It would make sense.

If Hobart was allowed to play at the Cooler, Ithaca can play at Cass Park. ..

I don't think Ithaca is the type of school that will do anything half arsed if you know what I mean when it comes to Athletics. They are a perennial top 25 school in the Directors Cup for a reason.

I guess I was lucky with that one but I believe the next prediction will see a 7th team in the West within two years. With Bryn Athyn College outside of Philadelphia, PA moving to NCAA Div. III this fall and former Neumann player and women's coach Matt Kennedy who is now the AD at Bryn Athyn, I would think that this would be the next program that moves to the West since they also have an ice rink on campus.

The Daniel Webster Eagles have reached the finals of the NECHA tournament four times in the past six seasons, winning its first championship in 2007. They play at the Conway Arena.

And a nod of the hat to cooperalls.

Re: Daniel Webster adding D-III varsity men's and women's hockey

How many more until they can add a twelfth team to the tournament?

I count 77 Division III hockey teams for 2015-16, someone can check my math.

If that's correct, the 6.5 access ratio divider comes out 11.8.

I'm willing to be that with Division III looking to cut cost of championships, there will be no more "rounding up" for adding teams to the tournament. We'll still need a few more teams to get to 12. The access ratio itself is being looked at and if they increase it....yikes...

Western Connecticut, aye? Can't wait to see them play at the Aud! ;)
