Game Summary; 5 - 5 tie in OT. Platty outshot Neumann 54-14. Neumann scored 5 goals on 14 shots on 3 different Platty goalies. Platty went 1 for 8 on the PP. The rematch tomorrow.

From the notable game file...Newly annoited Womens D1 program of Penn State outshot Chatham 45-33 in a 0 - 0 OT tie tonight in Pittsburgh. Hmmmm...

Or Platty's goalies should have shown up at the rink and the rest of the team should have played 60 minutes with the urgency they showed the last 13 minutes once they fell behind 5-1.
A ranked team shouldn't be getting outshot 54-14 by anyone.

If they would have won it wouldn't have mattered.
Norwich outshot the Plattsburgh women 42-14 last year and lost 4-2. Should Plattsburgh not have been ranked?
Sometimes you adjust your systems to a style you have to in order to compete with/beat a team.

getting outshot by 40 as opposed to 28 is a pretty big difference, and it was certainly an anomaly for plattsburgh moreso than them "adjusting their systems to compete with norwich". if i recall they outshot norwich and held them to about 20 shots in the 2nd game. we'll see if it's an anomaly for Neumann, but given that it's happened over and over again the last several years, i'm going to bank on "no".

Let me get this straight...Neumann scores 2 goals on 4 shots in the first, then Platty puts Neumann in and Neumann scores a goal on Neumann. Neumann gets chased by Neumann after 4:57. Then Ross comes in and...well, who the hey do you start in goal today against Neumann, Neumann?

My fairly obvious response to that is that a team that gives up 5 goals on 14 shots and needs a monumental collapse by the other team probably shouldn't be ranked.
Doesn't matter how many shots you take....but how many you make. For Ex:

Has nothing to do with national tournament, but shows that number of shots has no correlation to whether they should be ranked or not.

Of course it doesn't on it's own but it's an indicator of several other factors. As Derek mentioned it could mean a team is playing a certain style of game that they feel is best suited to win them a game. It could be a team with a body of work that shows they can be successful just had an off night against a really good team. Or it could mean that one team is just nowhere near as good as the other.
I'll stand by my assertion that no team that gives up 54 shots in a 60 minute game while being outshot by 40 deserves to be ranked. None of the other games referenced compare to this one. If you'd like to go on beliving that Neumann is one of the top 10 teams in the country, then more power to you. If they end up there at the end of the year you can say I told you so.
