D3 Regional Rankings and Bracketology

Re: D3 Regional Rankings and Bracketology

I read the box score. 46 shots to 30 shots back in December. Not a blowout. My thesis was that UMB in the last month has been way better than in December and that Amherst isn't really any better than in December because they've been playing at a high level all season. UMB beat two ranked teams (Norwich and Castleton) to get to the NCAA tournament. Amherst lost to Midd and barely beat Norwich earlier in the season. I think that Amherst is the better team but UMB isn't that far behind at the level they are playing at currently. You saying "Amherst is the real deal" doesn't mean jack without data to back it up. UMB is playing at a NCAA level now when it matters.

Moving forward, what are your thoughts on Middlebury? Peaked early in season? Steadily improved? Was the playoff game vs. Amherst considered an upset? I saw Amherst play early in the season and was very impressed. Was very surprised by the box score showing Amherst down 3-zip before they mounted a comeback vs. Mdby. (Saw the phantom goal highlight btw, pretty shameful)

The report from WCAX show the whole sequence in slow motion.

Holy crow...phantom goal doesn't even begin to cover it. That may be the worst call I've ever seen. Bad enough that the officials should have had to discuss it. What did they think they saw across the line? The puck didn't get close to touching the line, let alone crossing it. Interesting call... And the difference between hosting Boston and traveling to Plattsburgh...

There is a longer discussion in the NESCAC thread about the rule and interpretation of why that could be called a goal. To be fair, none of the players, coaches, or fans thought it was a goal either. The rule is pretty clear, though the choice of outcomes is very questionable.

I just hope none of those refs are doing the tourney games.

Heard they were suspended ( maybe only 2 of the 4) for remainder of 2016? Not sure if that means 2015-2016 season or until end of the year. Guess the powers that be thought that what transpired was pretty egregious.

I thought Middlebury improved over the course of the season this year. They are playing their strongest hockey now. I'd be surprised if they don't beat UMB. I don't think they can get by Plattsburgh and if they end up with Amherst (by some miracle) on neutral ice it is a complete toss-up - if they played 100 times it would be close to a 50-50 split.

ok...what? Please explain that nutty "logic"...that UMB and Amherst are quote "basically the same" but now you also think Midd is improved and 'playing their strongest hockey now'...yet in the same breath you state that Midd vs. Amherst is a toss-up? Whoa---Nelly. I'll have whatever you're smokin

I'm actually hoping Middlebury and Amherst lose so we can stop hearing about how amazing the NESCAC is. I'm sure you'll find some excuse though.

Ok genius...Never said Midd or Ammy would win the title this year...I think everyone knows Platty's the team.
But how about you and your super-tough western teams win even ONE championship before you pop off with your dopey comments. The fact that 2 of the 8 teams are from the nescac says all you need to know [and Conn and Trin are not far behind]. Undisputed best conf top to bottom. And academics?...well, that's not even up for debate.

And 2 of the other teams are from the ECAC West but that comes as no surprise because they're the same 2 ECAC West teams every year. Forgetting academics because that's a no-brainer I believe the ECAC West is the most successful if you're using total number of national championships won by a conference as the determining factor. However if I'm a player being recruited to play D3 hockey I hope a NESCAC coach wants me.

River Falls 4 St Thomas 1 Final.

St. Thomas outshot the Falcons pretty well, but only the ones that hit the back of the net count! One down and three to go for the Phinal Phour!
