D3 Hockey is back!

Re: D3 Hockey is back!

What's happening in Manhattanville? They used to be VERY competitive?

they are (dare I say it)...."sl--"...ok, not really sl--, but getting close. I think perhaps if one looks at the record prior to current coaching staff...and compares to now...a pattern will begin to emerge.

How'd that disallowed goal look - internet video cut out right before it
Happened on the far-end of the ice, so I did not get a good look at it. From someone who was there, it was said that the Ref lost sight of the puck, and was in the process of blowing the whistle when the puck crossed the line.

The tradition (albeit short tradition in the grand scheme of things ) of excellence at Manhattanville has seem to have given way to a commonplace, lackadaisical, going through the motion sense of coaching, recruiting and developing. It appears from the change of hands on the bench that little has been done to see to it the sense of urgency and effort that once made the Valiants nationally ranked and instead the program has fallen dramatically. Losing 10-0 the other weekend? This was never before seen a few years ago. While programs are growing (fantastic for the game, truly!) the Valiants have fallen to the way side over the years and its difficult to see and comprehend. A strong school with a storied history in itself, an excellent location close to the city and awesome locker room facilities at Playland, the Rangers old practice rink, it is hard to understand why they are not pulling in the recruits they once used to. As CrossCheck stated - it appears the losses that are quickly piling up can be contributed to the current coaching staff... As a fan in the Westchester area, I used to love watching this team but since their run to the NCAA's in 2011, they've been pressed to find the W's they used to and have been unable to mark themselves as true competitors with the top dogs. Here's to hoping the school can make the necessary changes to bring this program back to the level it once played at.

Re: D3 Hockey is back!

Watched UWRF play St. Scholastica last night and was impressed with Scholastica. They won the first 2 periods, moving the puck well and their goaltender was outstanding. Heads up for anyone headed to RF - with the construction it's a hike from the parking lot to the arena.

Looks like a crazy 3rd period.

Re: D3 Hockey is back!

Not even close. Coach Mandigo is 506-132-37.
Congratulations to Coach Houle and his teams on his 300th win!

Wow...that's impressive! Mandigo's always been a class act too!

How about Houle's win percentage - .854 (300-42-22)? Anyone better?

Amen to that.

While I'm not a huge fan of his ways, I'm not sure why we would want him gone. He has character and has supported the women's game for way longer than has been fashionable. Middlebury will be hard pressed to find a coach that will continue his level of success.

The simple answer is they can't do for recruits what they used to do financially because the NCAA has cracked down in recent years on D3 athletic programs and their financial insentives. It's a great option if you only have to pay a few thousand to go there but it's much less attractive if you have to pay close to full price.

Re: D3 Hockey is back!

Mike Carroll is in his 17th season as the women's head hockey coach at Gustavus. Within his tenure behind the Gustie bench, Carroll has turned Gustavus women’s hockey into one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division III. He has compiled an overall record of 350-83-27 in 16 seasons. Carroll is the second winningest coach all-time in NCAA Division III women's hockey with 350 wins and a winning percentage of .795.

He has done a great job there! Often wonder why he hasn't moved on

To call what Manhattanville did back in the day when they were winning ECAC titles hand over fist offering financial incentives is a bit of an undersell. They had 20 Canadians on scholarship. With that said, they should be a lot better than they have been in the past few seasons. Good school, good location, good facility. Yet, they are not very good.
