D3 2017 Offseason Thread: Coaching, Conferences, Etc.

Re: D3 2017 Offseason Thread: Coaching, Conferences, Etc.

Former Stevenson GA coach (and former UMB goalie) Moe Bradley penned a column about her decision to leave coaching because she "loved hockey too much." Interesting read.

Chris Baudo, a veteran coach at the hs/prep level, will be the Nazareth women's inaugural coach. They don't play until 2018, but Baudo starts July 1 of this year, giving him 1 and 1/4 years on the job before a game is played. Full release here.

Sounds like a solid start for the program.

He did a nice job starting up the Selects Academy. That's a big loss for that school. Good gain for Nazareth.

Very interesting read for sure. Sounds like when you turn your passion for hockey into your livelihood it somewhat kills your love and passion for the game. I get that. When you do something because you love it is different than when you do something because your bills and life in general depend on you doing it. Pretty clear that coaching became her life with little time for anything else in it, with little or no thanks from those she served. Sadly too many student-athletes and their parents have nothing but negative comments and complaints about their college coaches in today's society of entitlement, sometimes to the extent of costing those coaches their jobs. It doesn't sound like a very rewarding career, at least not according to her report.

She's got it all figured out at the ripe ol' age of 25?

Returning the favor for Adrian coming out to the East-West tourney in January of 2018, right?

Also noticed they have 26 games listed with the first designated 'exhibition' against St A.
Unless I'm wrong this is the first year that schools can play that extra game as long as its designated exhibition.

I only wish there was funding for more "favors" so we got a better notion of east and west.
Coach Bolding has put together a formidable non-conference line-up:
10/27 @ Adrain
10/28 @ Wisconsin River Falls
11/8 @ Plattsburgh
12/6 @ Amherst
12/10 Conn College
1/2 @ Trinity
1/7 Plattsburgh 8th East-West
1/8 TBD (Adrian or Elmira)
1/20 @ Elmira
2/6 Middlebury
Not too shabby, although daunting in playing away from the friendly confines of Kreitzberg so frequently.

Has to given the weak conference schedule he has to play - 1 conference tourney loss can knock them out of the NCAA otherwise.

Also - I wouldn't expect Conn to be nearly as good next year. Losing some good players. Back to the middle of the NESCAC pack.
