D1 Scores and Highlights

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

Natalie Spooner 4 - Miller/Harss 1. A sincere congratulations to Natalie Spooner and the rest of the OSU supporting cast, and their fans...you definitely deserved the win. I got a big kick out of the comments that could be heard from the stands during the game.

Blackbeard, thank you for the kind words about our team. We had a nice crowd tonight for a Thanksgiving weekend game and the team really performed. I was happy for them. It's no secret to those of us who follow women's college hockey that your team has owned us lately. I would love to know what comments you heard that you got a kick out of! Would you like to share?

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

I agree. It's a privilege to have Natalie Spooner on our team. She is such a gifted player. Seems like every game we go to, she does something amazing. Good luck to UMD the rest of the season.

Not only that, she is as tough as nails....Flash back a few years.......Stoney Creek showcase, she gets a puck in the face and is carried off the ice, broken Jaw, wired shut for 4 to 6 weeks. Fast Forward 8 weeks from mid September to early November....U18 National Final, Ontario vs Quebec, she just got back playing. With about 10 minutes to go she get nailed into the boards, by a current Big Red standout. Hits her head hard against the board/glass and leaves the game, visibly hurt. Remember she just returned from a broken jaw. Five minutes later, comes back on the ice from the hallway, like a caged animal let loose, and proceeds to play a couple of dominating shifts, and Ontario comes back to win the game late. Was there for both games. Unbelievable.

BTW....Me thinks UMD got a Spoonfull today :D

Nothing that you wouldn't normally hear at any game...there was one woman's voice that could be heard over most others...on OSU's first penalty early in the first period when (if I'm recalling the correct penalty) McParland on a long rush carried the puck around the back of the net from Steffes' left to right and upon emerging on the other side while looking for someone to pass to in the slot was tripped from behind (it looked quite unintentional to me but a trip nonetheless) this woman could be heard loudly proclaiming..."Nice Dive!" It wasn't so much what the comments were as much as the way they were delivered. I got the overwhelming impression that the negative comments directed at UMD weren't really believed by the people uttering them and that they didn't want to be less than gracious while at the same time wanting to show support for their team. Collectively they just struck me as unoffensive, sincere fans...just very nice people who were venturing into uncomfortable territory when attempting to show disapproval for UMD at times.

Funny how we form impressions sometimes from inflections and intonations.

Wow ... just ... wow! Doesn't surprise me a bit! Thank you for sharing that OnMAA! I can only hope that we get more players like Natalie in the future, although, it is occurring to me as I type this that she is one of a kind. We may never get another player like Natalie Spooner. She is an amazing hockey player, and it has been a privilege having her play for our Buckeyes.

LOL, that's funny! Think that lady was sitting near me!

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

A bit of irony -- after their Friday night wins, Nate Handrahan's new and old teams are tied for the 8th spot in the PWR. OSU would take the tiebreaker on the basis of a better RPI, at least in theory.

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

Here we go already. Ohio State scores shorthanded about two minutes in to go up 1-0 on UMD. It's going to be a long afternoon.

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

Jenna McParland skates through traffic at 11 minutes of the first period on a power play goal to tie OSU 1-1.

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

Cornell up on BU 1-0 after one. Cornell has a slight edge in shots 6-5. Overall, a sloppier 1st period for Cornell compared to yesterday. Good scoring changes for both sides.

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

Cornell's up 4-0 on BU after two. BU is getting their chances but Mazzotta is looking very sharp. Cornell still has the slight edge in shots 16-15. LOTS of penalties on both sides. BU had a 5 on 3 for a little over a minute but couldn't convert.

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

Kelly Foley added one in the second period - Darty now up 2-1 at the end of two.
Margaux Sharp beat Flo Schelling in the first.
