D1/D2 scheduling alliance for 2017-18

Re: D1/D2 scheduling alliance for 2017-18

I really wish they would just come up with some black and white criteria to meet. All they did was add subjectivity and continue to lack transparency. It kind of sucks.

Also I love how every year they look at the RPI and they're like:

"In situations where a high-impact player is unavailable, the committee may consider this as part of its evaluation of the above criteria."

Wow, does that open the door of subjectivity....

"The committee also determined that, beginning in 2017-18, to be eligible to host quarterfinal competition all hosts must secure hotels for the visiting team that are within 30 miles of the competition facility."

Are they trying to screw over Clarkson...?

There isn't a hotel within 30 miles of the rink? How can Clarkson even be a D1 school? They should vacate their titles be switched to D3.

That's been there for years though. But I mean, even so, it's just one of the many ways there's unnecessary subjectivity in the selection.

By the way, what does that even mean? Does it mean if a good player was playing all year but then was injured, the committee can opt not to select them? Or does it mean that if a team played all season without its best player, but she came back before the tournament, they can opt to include a team that wasn't going to be selected otherwise?

Probably either is possible in their world!

Have you been there?

Depends on how you define hotel...

Sure, there are hotels within 30 miles, but only the ones that are in Potsdam and Canton, because those are the only towns within 30 miles (well, not really ... Massena is just within 30 miles and they will have a fair number of choices). The problem can be if Clarkson does not reserve a bunch of rooms now just in case, there might not be any available when the possible home game approaches. Seriously. There's not much up there. And if you rule out the flea bag motels, there really isn't much up there. And chunks of rooms may already be reserved for other visiting teams playing at Potsdam, Clarkson, St. Lawrence, and Canton already.

(P.S. Little peeved that Clarkson can win TWO titles under those conditions?! LOL)

At least you can now claim bragging rights. "You play hockey better, but we have more hotel rooms available. On Wisconsin!"

Canton and Potsdam have nice hotels. The fans, however will sleep in the Pit.

Saint Anselm transitively beat Wisconsin today:

Saint Anselm > Sacred Heart > Holy Cross > Harvard > Dartmouth > Maine > Northeastern > Wisconsin

Re: D1/D2 scheduling alliance for 2017-18

I cannot speak to Saint Anselm, but I have seen both Sacred Heart and Holy Cross coaches recruiting more aggressively the past year. Coach Lachapelle has been very visible around showcases and tournaments (making me think Coach Van Buskirk is on his way out) and Assistant Coach Pauletti was also out scouting for Sacred Heart late last season and early this year. Holy Cross joining Hockey East will get them looks by girls who can play at the D1 level and that team should continue to improve. SHU has committed some girls for next season that are really good players and will make them a much tougher opponent, but if they don't find an affiliation to a conference soon they will continue to play a schedule that really doesn't allow them to get to the next level. So, transitively Saint Anselm, Sacred Heart and Holy Cross beat Wisconsin, but in reality it does look like they are making a real effort to become more competitive.

No Holy Cross though

Yes, minus HC. I imagine they can't and don't want to squeeze these guys in now that they're playing a Hockey East schedule. Looks like the others are staying together.

FP and SMC both notate they are playing the NEWHA schedule (http://www.smcathletics.com/sports/wice/2018-19/schedule, http://athletics.franklinpierce.edu/sports/wice/2018-19/schedule). Post hasn't posted their schedule yet but I imagine it will look similar.

They appear to be making up the games with D3 opponents.
