D1 Commitments 2012-2013

Re: D1 Commitments 2012-2013

0% .....the first date an Ivy can provide a "likely letter" is Oct 1, if they have your completed application before that

While that is semantically correct, in many cases, once the coach verbally indicates they support a recruit's admission, it sets the wheels in motion, for the applicant to verbally commit. That usually kicks off the formal the admissions process, leading to the above mentioned likely letter. Most Ivy recruits show up on the listing sometime after the verbal.

If you do the early admission process at an Ivy (Oct/Nov), it implies you make a formal first choice meaning that if you get accepted, you have to commit to that school.

Mercyhurst
Lauren Kilroy .....................D ............................(NAHA) ........................Huntington Beach, CA
Morgann Madill ..................F ........................(Ohio Flames).......................Kansas City, MO
Maggie Rothgery ................F ........................(Ohio Flames) ....................................Elyria, OH

Should I be worried that Coach Sisti is recruiting this many Americans? Sort of out of the norm for Mercyhurst.

Heard that Burke commited to WIS also. Very good player. Between Crossley and Burke, very potent defensive pairing on SSM U19. Burke likes to jump up in offense where Badgers seem to like their defense to start the transition and play D. Maybe she plays a power forward? Should be very good at whatever role she sees.

Re: D1 Commitments 2012-2013

Ther are lots of known Ontario PW player committments out there but nothing on here or on BTD. Is this typical?

It tends to be. Many of the US commitments get publicized because of word-of-mouth conversations or stories in their local news. Some Canadian commitments don't come to light until the signing is announced by the school.

Cali,
If you are comfortable in sharing these (family ok with disclosure, etc. ) then add them to this thread. I have learned over time that the girls that are still being recruited can make better decisions if they have accurate information. Case in point, a player has been waiting on a Univ. to hear from an offered player. Player found out a decision had been made in August but there was no communication back from coaches. The players decision was public in Midwest but not out east. This thread and BTD can be useful for this and many other reasons.

Basically it comes down to this: In the US making a verbal commitment and announcing it is viewed as cool. In Canada doing the same is viewed as not cool. (at least in the PWHL)

That's an interesting observation. I have asked a few parents of committed players why they haven't put their info up and they have either said, "don't want to jinx it" or "D's PW coach asked not to make it public". Like most others, it is not my place to make such announcements for them and as such would not do so without approval.

That's an interesting difference. In the U.S., those who run the club teams view the offer from a college school as an achievement for both the student athlete and the club. If a high percentage of their players go on to play NCAA hockey, it bodes well for attracting future talent to the club. So often the club site is one of the first places that the news appears.

My guess would be from a "don't want to make the other players jealous" standpoint. You know us Canadians, always polite and considerate!!?? :)

Re: D1 Commitments 2012-2013

Over the past six or so years I have been doing this I have yet to see a commitment we've listed to an Ivy not turn out to be such. I think the girls doing the committing have a pretty good idea (ridiculously high test scores/a likely letter) that they will be accepted, or have waited until they have been accepted to make the commitment.

You had one on your list last year from Harvard, who is attending a different school this fall.

Well said Hux...

Re: D1 Commitments 2012-2013

Don't think anyone has posted this yet but according to this blog, North Dakota has commitments from two huge recruits in Becca Kohler and Meghan Dufault. If UND doesn't do damage in the tourney this year, definitely seems like they're building an even better team for next year.

Nice catch. I'll get the list updated shortly.

Re: D1 Commitments 2012-2013

PWHL Girls like to wait until an NLI is actually signed as this makes it official, not just word of mouth. Once November comes and the NLI's are signed the word will go out. It's like announcing someone as your husband before the actual marriage!
