D1 Commitments 2011-2012

Re: D1 Commitments 2011-2012

Here are some classic's. Love the one about Harvard and the Fake Hen. Hilarious.

It suddenly occurs to me that maybe I should start taking some of whatever it is he/she's on. I'd love to have that kind of excitement. :)

Re: D1 Commitments 2011-2012

It looks like Saulnier hasn't played with the Aeros for a number of games now. Just curious if anyone knows why. Is she injured?

Heard through the grapevine that she broke her wrist back in the fall and had season-ending surgery after the U22 series at the direction of Hockey Canada.

D1 Commitments 2011-2012

Expect now that I have been 'lampooned' (small,"L"), I might reply...

I write to my class Newsletter Editor in similar vein to presentations personally writ here.

And...I am a subscriber to Lax Power (laxpower.com) re lacrosse.

Another game I myself did play-lacrosse-with varied amounts of success but maybe at a higher level (a little more success/didn't get cut on the first posted cut-list... but UNLIKE with ice hockey, at the time, I had not even played (or seen) that (lacrosse) game prior to playing it.)

Post there as Rafterjack (my Appalachian Trail trail name; in 2002 I walked that (Appalachian Trail) from Georgia to Maine and it was where I saw in front of me the 'fake' of the supposedly lame-winged (Grouse, with her brood) hen!

Aim is fun.

Sooo...I see maybe your wanting more Pap, Sir/Madam. Therefore try laxpower.com. Pap/Rafterjack is now a pollster there, as well as a regular contributor.

Oh, lordy!
:)

ugh...you dont ever want to see kids get seriously injured...

...but i also think it's a sad day when kids start taking orders from USA Hockey or Hockey Canada whether it's about injuries, where they should be playing hockey, or whatever.

Re: D1 Commitments 2011-2012

do we really have to have this conversation EVERY time papulaisle posts?

You did not get it. Was merely complimenting Pap in a backhanded way. You got to admire people who wear their heart on their sleeve and cheer on their favorite team. Heck, tried to do the same, but got shut down by a bunch of naysayers, so gave up on it. U should know what I'm talking about.

IMHO, those talented enough to be at this level, and that want it, welcome the direction and guidance and probably follow it without much hesitation.

because they want to or because they are scared of what will happen if they don't? that they might find themselves no longer at that level"? not to mention there are other people that are affected by these situations. teammates, coaches, and not just at the pwhl level. universities that have invested a lot of money in developing these players FOR hockey canada. there have been college players put on the shelf mid-season because hockey canada told them to have a procedure done then instead of at the end of the season.

anyway back to this situation, i'm sorry but if i have a doctor who says my daughter doesn't need surgery and can put her broken wrist in a cast for 6 or 8 weeks and then be good to go, then i don't want her having surgery.

i don't know if thats what actually happened here, but that is what is implied by your original post on the subject.

Me thinks you are reading too much into it. While I know nothing about the specific example, it does stand to reason in this case that the college the player is heading to would prefer the surgery now over later, as it would give them a better shot at a healthy body arriving into camp this coming September.

if im reading too much into it then please make it clear for me.

either she needed the surgery outright, or she didn't need it and hockey canada told her to get it done.

your comment that it was at the direction of hockey canada makes it sound like the 2nd option is what happened. if that's the case, i'm pretty sure a broken wrist that didn't necessarily require surgery would have been healed well in advance of next fall.

Re: D1 Commitments 2011-2012

your comment that it was at the direction of hockey canada makes it sound like the 2nd option is what happened.

You should learn how to read. I never suggested it was at the direction of hockey Canada. That was from another poster.

My point was that her college probably prefers the fix to be sooner rather than later to have a better chance of a healthy body come September. They could care less about the record of her current club team vis a vis the health status of their recruit.

Wow get touchy much? No need to insult anyones intelligence. So I confused you with the other intelligent Ontario based poster whose opinions I generally appreciate and respect, along with yours. For that I apologize, but I would guess there are far worse posters I could have confused you with.

As to your point, of course Cornell could care less about the record of her current team, and nowhere has it been suggested otherwise. It is certainly better than when Hockey Canada took a BU player out of action for several games in the MIDDLE of last season.

But I still stand by my point that Trillium's initial post suggested that surgery was not deemed necessary until Hockey Canada stepped in. If that's true, Saulnier would have been healthy by next fall one way or the other so that is a moot point. What matters is that teenaged girls and their families need to be able to make decisions about what is in their own best interest without interference or intimidation from outside forces.

Re: D1 Commitments 2011-2012

Saulnier is a very wise and mature young lady. Her parents are involved and 'hockey wise'. Although there is always pressure felt amongst the girls to do the right things and not ruffle feathers there, I am sure that through consultation with the parents it was commonly agreed upon that surgery was the best route. I would also expect that the Saulnier family or HC consulted with the Cornell staff as well especially seeing that there is a strong connection there between all the HC players in that program. That being said, the doctors/professionals involved with Hockey Canada are well qualified to make these suggestions given that they deal with hockey players and their injuries on a regular basis.
