D1 Coaches At Risk

OK - I'll jump in now that the regular season is almost over. Potential at risk coaches - just throwing these out there for comments:

- Union - Winless barring a miracle this weekend. Record winless streak. Major step back for the program. But who knows - it's Union...
- RIT - Don't know much other than they seem to be consistent regular season underachievers and playoff overachievers. If they are out early this season in the playoffs, is he at risk? It doesn't appear he has not represented the school well personally setting aside the coaching success.
- Providence - Better than last season, but not much. I haven't followed closely but not much on the recruiting front is there?
- Penn State - Has he performed successfully for Penn State's standards? It hasn't been a disaster by any stretch, but how long is he allowed to be highly competitive nationally given the resources he has? Expectations are generally high at Penn State and the men's coach is making him look bad.
- Maine - Who knows? They may have less interest at Maine than at Union and relatively new coaches, so maybe nobody noticed this season... Also, their men are terrible so their focus is probably on that.
- WCHA - Bottom 4 all already have relatively new coaches, so a pass I think.
- RPI - Been beaten up on here the last few seasons but their success this season has been a considerable improvement and it would appear he is in a much better place.

Re: D1 Coaches At Risk

John Burke isn't going anywhere unless it's on his own volition. Not even worth mentioning.

Re: D1 Coaches At Risk

Maine coaching staff should be out of danger. They have a few interesting recruits coming in including a forward from the Czech National Team who will be an impact player freshman year. What this all means of course is that Maine will be able to compete for that coveted fourth spot in Hockey East :)

I bet Mercyhurst is glad UMD didn't hire Sisti.

depends whether the AD agrees with TTT aka Grant aka Knucklehead that they would be a top ten team this year.
While maybe improvement hasn't come as fast as some would like, they have improved over the years

McDonald at RIT & Plummer at UVM. Both are very bad with no end to that trend in sight.

Plummer? He has improved the program significantly since taking over from the previous coach (who was truly horrible). Give him some time to make it his roster, then judge.

Respectfully Disagree - McDonald at RIT has had a great career.....D3 Natty Champs and 2 CHA Conference Championships is pretty darn good. A donor also endowed a women's hockey coaching position during his tenure and he signed a six year extension. All of this while having no scholarships to give...impressive. He is entitled to a bad year!

Gendron extended through the 2019 season.

I was very very wrong about Penn State, but very very right about Northeastern

Batting .500 would put me in the hall of fame

It is not coincidence that the bottom team in the CHA and the 5 bottom teams in the ECAC are non-scholarship schools. If you have the same set of win / loss expectations for Union and RIT you will create a rotating door and no one will take the job.

Seems to have worked on the men's side. Why?

As has been stated countless times before, men's hockey and women's hockey are two different sports and recruiting for each sport is also completely different. You can't make the same assumptions and comparisons.

I've seen that comparison many times and not sure I agree with the assessment.
