D-III Women's Ice Hockey Championships Awarded To RIT

Re: D-III Women's Ice Hockey Championships Awarded To RIT

I was on the conference call Monday and the teams are allowed up to 36 tickets to the banquet max and that includes players, coaches, administrators, trainers, SIDs. Once you add all that up, there isn't any room for the parents of all the seniors.

End of story.

My D was involved in three final fours and we, as parents, were not allowed to attend any of them. And to your point above...after you factor in all the team, coaches, admin, trainers, etc, that leaves ten or less tickets...can't even get half the parents in. But as I also said, that was then, this is now. Things hopefully have changed. I hope so, cuz I really missed attending the banquets. They sounded pretty cool.

Get a bigger room so more people could attend. I guess a University/College with 17,000 plus students just can not find the room or space. Very sad for all the parents that would like to attend but can not because of the limitation on tickets or not being give the proper information.

Re: D-III Women's Ice Hockey Championships Awarded To RIT

I'm sorry that you both feel slighted that couldn't attend the banquet. Since I'm not a parent, it doesn't really effect me either way what the rules are on the banquet. I can certainly see your beef with the system but pleased be advised that the facts are 26 tickets are allocated to the "official traveling party" and then 10 extra tickets are available for each school to purchase at a cost to them that they can distribute however they please. Now, most teams will use up all the 26 tickets with just their players, staff, admin, coaches, trainers etc and will cut a large chunk of the extra 10 tickets allowed.

If a team has any left over tickets, how do you pick which parents get to go? Why should one set get to go over another?

Lastly, why not let this event be about the players and being with their teams rather than having your parents there.

This is the players time and let them enjoy the company of their fellow student athletes.

If parents want to attend a banquet, go to your respective school's end of the season banquet if they have one.

IMHO, the NCAA banquet should be about the players and teams.

That being said, I have yet to attend a banquet. This year will be my first, but I'll be working during it anyways producing stories for USCHO about the All-Americans and the Laurd Hurd Award winner.

I agree it should be about the players and the schools in this case mom and dad have no standing. They should talk with their peers and mentors and have a night they can call their own. They have worked hard since they 12 flying and studying, pratice and studying, playing and studying. Yes they have grown up and some events mean as much to a parent when the stories are told.

While I agree that yes it's the players' time, it would mean so much to parents who've been at their side from the time they were 4-5 years old; to see the recognition and share their pride in rising to the top and capping off their success with a recognition banquet.

One of the best things about the banquet was the captain's speeches (which I only heard snippets from on the NCAA video) and to see the ladies all dressed up and sharing their team tables together. It's not often you get to see the entire team in dresses and skirts, makeup, the whole nine yards...it's a rare and impressive time. It's just a shame we weren't/aren't able to watch, even from a distance and to share in this special, and in some cases, once in a lifetime opportunity.

Let goooooooooo...

You'll end up like Seymore still moaning, groaning and spewing 5 years later...

Better yet, Ask the girls and or coaches... they prob don't want any parent or fan within 25 miles of the thing.

Ate at i believe is called mcgregors on the strip a little over a mile from the rink last time i was down....decent food and literally over a hundred draft beers to choose from

I also like McGregors...lots to chose from, good food, good drink. 2 pool tables, darts and tons of flat screens with games on.

maybe the answer is to have a parents event at the same time with the proceeds going to womens hockey!!!

Hey Tex...you just dont get it...I aint moaning and groaning and spewing...just an observation that's all. It'd be nice for parents to be able to watch a very special banquet thats all. It's a very important weekend in the hockey careers of the girls and a proud moment for parents too. And the more you get to watch, the more you get to enjoy...but hey...5 4 ...until you actually get to celebrate a national championship or two, I can understand how you just DONT GET IT!! :)

Oh I get it...It'll be a frosty day before the NCAA buys you, me or anybody else for that matter a chicken dinner.
