D-III All-Americans Watch

Re: D-III All-Americans Watch

I can never understand why Jenna McCall from Elmira never gets any love for these kinds of things. You try and put up the numbers this kid has at this level being 4' 11". She can play on my All American team anyday...

The one that I never got was Sophie LeClerc of Norwich. Granted she will only get 3 years because she was a sophmore when Norwich took on a varsity program but this player is dynamite to watch and she can control a game even when she does not show up on the game sheet. This is a kid that in her 3 years has scored 45 goals and had 60 assists for 105 points in 3 years and was never mentioned as being an All American. That is 15 goals and 20 assists average every year (Last year was 19 Goals and 26 Assists...and never a mention).............I have seen players with far worse get mentioned numerous times.....I just do not get it.

I said Leclerc got robbed last season. Just like McCall did.:)

Leclerc was the best player on the ice in the NCAA quarterfinal game last year in Elmira and that was with Laura Hurd award winner Kayla Coady and two all-americans in Cubberley and Wilks out there too.

I concur, and after watching her vs. Amherst and Middlebury I am shocked I didn't mention her earlier.

Re: D-III All-Americans Watch

I admit a bias in favor of players I had the pleasure of watching play multiple times:
1st Team
Forward-Courtney Hanlon-Amherst
Forward-Sara Dagg-RIT
Forward-Stephanie Moberg-Plattsburgh
Defense-Randi Zukas-Amherst
Defense-Laura Komarek-Trinity
Goal-Isabel Iwachiw-Trinity
2nd Team
Forward-Geneva Lloyd-Amherst
Forward-Julie Fortier-Norwich
Forward-Anna McNally-Middlebury
Defense-Kirsten Dier-Amherst
Defense-Jamie Kivi-Elmira
Goal-Lauren Sullivan-Elmira
I know many worthy players are not on this short list and I would like to thank all the young women who work so hard and sacrifice so much of their time because they love to play hockey!

Re: D-III All-Americans Watch

All-American West Division

F-Kim Herring-Lake Forest
F-Michaela Michaelson-St. Kates
F-Katelyn Dold-Concordia Moorhead
D-Kristen Peterson-GAC
D-Jamie Sauer-Lake Forest
G-Melissa Kunzelman-Wis-Superior

I figure the 2nd defensemen will either be Sauer or Bean. I think the other forward will come down to Kristen Faber or Dold

Re: D-III All-Americans Watch

Someone may want to clarify or look from year's past but my understanding was that All-American had to be chosen only from First Team selection.

I believe if you have a 1st and 2nd team. The MIAC and NCHA have gone to not dividing them up between 2 teams and giving them all first team.

Re: D-III All-Americans Watch

Plumer doesn't have a lot of all stars.

Just a lot of very good players. No holes on that team. Defensive corp is great. Hanlon is a stud up front but I don't think she's got the numbers to make AA.

I put two on there. Having 1/6th of the AA team is pretty darn good?

Don't be confused. Having the depth that Amherst has is a tribute to the coaching and the school's ability to attract good players.

Doesn't mean they don't have players that warrant first team mention. Problem is they have maybe 3 D and 2 or 3 O that compete. ... with each other as well as with other stars on other teams. While running 4 lines.

I'm more in agreement with obserbear's list. Hu had a great season and certainly stepped up to the challenge in the NESCAC's (especially in the OT periods!!!), but she's got great talent in front of her (same argument against Brodeur's status, by the way!!). Doesn't help her case, but I respect your choice to pick her.

I'm putting together a team, I want Zukas, Hanlon and Dier, and I wouldn't pass on Lloyd! Actually, Amherst might be the team I'd want ...

just sayin'.

Will be an interesting couple of weeks.

By the way, I like Amherst's record over the past few years without a lot of "stars."

Maybe we need to change the way we pick stars.

I wasn't trying to slight Amherst?

Simply providing my view point that while teams like Plattsburgh, Elmira, Middlebury etc have one or two players that are "stars"....they don't have the depth that a team like Amherst does because they have a ton of very good players rather than stars.

No challenge to your intentions.

Point being that Amherst has stars who play a team game.

And I guess, to question the analysis. What's the "all American" about? Is it about numbers or contribution to a team and its accomplishments?

I agree there are all American candidates whose teams have never won championships/titles.

Harder to pick candidates whose numbers don't compete, but whose teams seem to win a lot.

Have to disagree and say that these teams have just as much depth. Check out Elmira's freshman and sophomore class.

Well aware of their freshman and sophomore class.

Saw the EC now sophomore class play in the NC last year against Amherst and the Lady Jeffs' depth IMHO was one of the keys to the game.

EC had the best two players on the ice with Cubberley and Coady. Elek was no slouch herself. But Amherst's depth was a big factor for them eventually winning the game IMHO.

Dennett, Karega and Vitale all had five points in the three NCAA games  seems awfully top-heavy for a team that scored 11 goals in the tournament. Not saying they don't have depth, but i don't think your argument of depth as a key to that game is valid...Vitale a goal and 2 helpers and Dennett two goals and one helper. 11 of 18 skaters didn't register a point with 4 goals being scored — all but one of those goals having 2 assists. 13 skaters without a point for elmira with three goals. Can two skaters have made all the difference? I doubt it.

Okay....is anyone out there familiar with Sophie Leclerc now??......Check with Coach Houle....I wonder if she will be on his ballot?

Great post. I would have to agree that anyone putting Hu on an AA team is spending too much time looking at statistics. She's a good goalie, but I am hard pressed to find any games this year where I would have listed her as a primary reason for victory. I know part of that comes with the territory of playing behind such a strong team, but even last year you didn't need stats to know that Elek was one of the best players on the ice. Her stats were better against ranked teams. You can't say that about Hu. Not knocking her, just suggesting there might be other girls out there more deserving of the recognition.

Re: D-III All-Americans Watch

With a week till the announcement at the banquet before the D-III women's ice hockey championships...here are my thoughts on the All-American candidates.

East-

1st Team:

F.Steph Moberg, Plattsburgh
F.Anna McNally, Middlebury
F.Katie Stack, RIT
D.Jamie Kivi, Elmira
D.Laura Komarek, Trinity
G.Isabel Iwachiw, Trinity

Sophie Leclerc should be on this list. I understand you've got to be on the all league team to be considered, but that was a dreadful omission.

to go along with the 15 other dreadful omissions across the country that everybody else is claiming. no need to be a homer every second of the day on every post you make.

I don't know if there are 15 dreadful omissions out there. However many there are, Leclerc's omission is the most dreadful. And I'm no homer for Norwich.

but we already all know that its based on the all-conference teams. the all conference teams were announced before two minutes left in the quarterfinals saturday...
