With a week till the announcement at the banquet before the D-III women's ice hockey championships...here are my thoughts on the All-American candidates.

East-

1st Team:

F.Steph Moberg, Plattsburgh
F.Anna McNally, Middlebury

2nd Team:

Plumer doesn't have a lot of all stars.

Just a lot of very good players. No holes on that team. Defensive corp is great. Hanlon is a stud up front but I don't think she's got the numbers to make AA.

I put two on there. Having 1/6th of the AA team is pretty darn good?:confused:

I can never understand why Jenna McCall from Elmira never gets any love for these kinds of things. You try and put up the numbers this kid has at this level being 4' 11". She can play on my All American team anyday...

F: Kristen Faber
F: Michaela Michaelson
D: Courtney Bean
D: Kristen Peterson
G: Melissa Kunzlemann or Danielle Justice...numbers are about equal...but Kunzlemann played more often.

That would be my guess..A little NCHA heavy but you know Herring, Michaelson, and Peterson will be there. Kunzlemann should with the numbers she's put up.

There is only one team in the west unless its changed with the addition of Marian..hopefully with SNC and CSS next year it will go up to two for sure.

IMHO focusing on numbers can sometimes be deceiving. If all these girls got together for rat hockey I would guess that Hanlon would be one of the first players picked. And, as a result of the great defense on Amherst, Hu rarely sees more than 3-4 serious chances per game, so those stats are a bit deceiving as well.

The west only gets one team. I don't think anyone on UWRF has the numbers to make it.

Spend the 7 bucks and watch McCall instead of relying on Ducky and Rob all the time ya cheap SOB...you'll see what I mean. Her numbers are one thing...the fight in this diminutive bulldog is an entirley a different story.

Trust me, I know all about her. Played against her at the junior level in the PWHL when she played for Bluewater. She's stepped it up since arriving at the college level. Tough little farm girl from Thamesford, outside London. She developed a bit of a habit of diving last year that I think she inherited from Huntley (the most despised player of all time) but, yes, a plucky little player with a big heart. Worthy of an AA for sure.

Bowler too is a rural girl with a huge heart and exceptional talent. Great influence both on the ice and in the dressing room. A real treat to know, and VERY worthy of AA status as well.

You're absolutely correct.

Making Amherst a very tough team to predict like i said with a lot of good players.

However, how many coaches outside of the NESCAC know how good Hanlon is when they are voting?

As much as stats can be deceiving...for a niche sport like D-III women's hockey its tough to go by much else.

Kim Herring- Pretty evident looking at her stats... leading the National statistics by 8 points... NCHA Player of the Year

Michaela Michaelson- MIAC Player of the Year... Lead her team from a losing season to making a run to the MIAC Championship

Katelyn Dold- Led the MIAC in points, above Michaelson who was Player of the Year... Ranked second in points for the West Division behind Herring.

Kristen Peterson- Ridiculous numbers as a defenseman. Helped lead GAC to their 7th consecutive MIAC Championship.

Jamie Sauer- Senior captain defender. Basically doubled her points from last year and helped lead her team to a team record 10 game winning streak in mid-season. Part of the NCHA First Team.

Melissa Kunzelman-Received the majority of the minutes for UW-Sup. Recorded a .947 save percentage and had a GAA of 1.22.

Hard to arue with any of that. Nice job.

I think Peterson, Michaelson, and Herring are the locks. After that, the other three positions are up in the air. Goaltender comes down to Kunzelman vs Justice. Kunzelman might get aided by the fact she's a senior.
