Cycling 2016

Re: Cycling 2016

Yeah, I tried dumping both Valverde or Nibali to try to make Landa fit, but since they were GC, and he was a climber, I had to do so much juggling with the rest of the roster, I ended up with crap . If it were a one to one swap out it would have been easy, either Nibali and Landa, or Valverde and Landa.

I did take DeMarchi, and a bunch of other guys who should be hunting stages, and hopefully one or two of them might get lucky. Valverde says he's stage hunting as well, while also looking to make the podium. Now that its underway, here's my team.

Vincenzo Nibali Astana Pro Team
Alejandro Valverde Movistar Team
Alessandro De Marchi BMC Racing Team
Stefano Pirazzi Bardiani - CSF
Sacha Modolo Lampre - Merida
Marcel Wyss IAM Cycling
Diego Ulissi Lampre - Merida
Bob Jungels Etixx - Quick Step
Sonny Colbrelli Bardiani - CSF

I unfortunately haven't been able to pay too much attention so far this season so I've likely done something stupid here, but:

Tom Dumoulin Team Giant - Alpecin
Ilnur Zakarin Team Katusha
Mikel Landa Team Sky
Johan Chaves Orica GreenEDGE
Marcel Kittel Etixx - Quick Step
Leigh Howard IAM Cycling
Omar Fraile Dimension Data
Sonny Colbrelli Bardiani - CSF
Manuel Belletti Southeast - Venezuela

I had Ulissi in for quite a while but then finally got rid of him because he's a dirtbag. I'll be regretting this as soon as he starts lighting things up again :p

Re: Cycling 2016

I don't think Howard will do much, and not familiar with Belletti, but the rest of the team looks decent. I was tempted by Dumoulin for the TT's, and they say he's looking to do well overall, but I figure he'll crack out of the top placings in the high mountains.

Yeah, I had four points left and...supposedly...Howard is going to hunt for stages so I went with it.

As far as Ulissi goes...told you I'd regret it :). Really need to go back to my old strategy in these things. When I stuck to it I really cleaned house. See: Santambrogio, Mauro

Re: Cycling 2016

I had like five riders in that final break yesterday, DeMarchi, Ulissi, Pirazzi, Colbrelli, Jungels, but unfortunately, they didn't stay away, and the group caught them and most of them finished well down in the pack. Luckily, Valverde and Nibali had high finishing spots to replace them.

Re: Cycling 2016

As a car racing fan who likes some cycling, it was really cool to see this stage of the Tour of California finish at Laguna Seca. That climb up to the corkscrew was great- then seeing them fly down to that- really cool.

Then to see a sprint start from the corner- seems too long, given how long the straight is, even to the start-finish line.

Re: Cycling 2016

Five of the top ten finishers in the stage of the Giro today, and four of the top ten overall. Looks like keeping Landa off my team, and picking Jungels instead of Dumoulin may pay off in the long run.

Just checked Velogames. My score for today's stage was 27th out of 14,466 teams. Moved up like 3000 places overall.

Couple of sick crashes by Kreuswick, who appears to have a broken rib and Zakarin, broken clavicle and shoulder blade, didn't show the crash but didn't look like he was in good shape. Chavez in the pink and Nibali prepared to pounce tomorrow. Funny unlike the NBC guys the Bein commentators didn't mention waiting for the leader who has fallen once.

All of those who think Nibali isn't doping, sign up here. not everyone at once.

The lot of them. Funny how so many come down sick the day after the rest day. Dumoulin(oh, sorry, saddle sores), Landa, Tejay last year, probably a bunch of others i can't recall right off.

Bad blood bags, anyone?

Re: Cycling 2016

Is velonews really acting like this is some sort of revelation? This is on par with being shocked that Chris Horner "looked good" at Redlands.

Regardless, as a side note and relevant to the story itself, GW501516 (or any of its similarly named brothers) is incredibly dangerous.
Yes I believe that is exactly what they are saying..To them, It's like everyone knew it was rampant in Pro cycling but in amateur most people assumed it wasn't.
I guess I don't get the point of cheating. Whether it's mechanical or drug induced.

Phil and Paul are absolutely dreadful. They totally botched that finish. Didn't even know Cavendish was in the main pack and then all of sudden, Cavendish wins.

I watch cycling once a year during the tour and I feel I could have called a better finish than that.

Re: Cycling 2016

I picked a team, but not sure how well they're gonna do.

Thibaut Pinot FDJ 16
Wilco Kelderman Team LottoNL-Jumbo 10

Peter Sagan Tinkoff 20

I'm 4000th right now with the following team:

Aru, Alaphillipe, Quintana, Dennis, Grivko, Durbridge, Kristoff, Sagan, Izagirre

Re: Cycling 2016

I'm in 14,000 place, with this team, I picked was going to change a bit, then never did, top heavy with 3 from Trek and Tinkoff and then 2 from Astana. With Contador hitting the deck twice doesn't look that great for me. But at least I didn't pick Richie Porte:D

Alberto Contador Tinkoff
Bauke Mollema Trek-Segafredo
Fabio Aru Astana Pro Team
Jakob Fuglsang Astana Pro Team
Peter Sagan Tinkoff
Peter Stetina Trek-Segafredo
Roman Kreuziger Tinkoff
Fabian Cancellara Trek-Segafredo
Rohan Dennis BMC

Re: Cycling 2016

Cavendish has grown on me....Used to really not like him with his pouty attitude when he didn't win or when he would sit up and not finish off a sprint if he wasn't going to win.

However, today he was mighty impressive winning that uphill sprint against Greipel and even coming from behind to do it, kicking it in twice.

Kicking myself a little bit that I didn't find a place for Cav on my team. Had him last year but right now his form looks great. Hopefully Kristoff can nab a stage win here at some point.
