Covid 2023

The right is deconstructing the entire Deep State. That includes all Government run Institutions. Public Schools are a HUGE one in this area. They would rather privatize everything (which is always more expensive overall), then work towards the common good. Privatizing also allows them to line the proper pockets with tons of cash.

I get that part, but the attacks coming from chucky are from people who can’t afford private schools. And they also ignore that the for profit schools can also push their own agenda that can be different. All the for profit schools really do is lower the bar to be a teacher, so they can profit.

Pay them less, too. If you wanted to be a teacher, would you rather work at a public school, or a tony private school where all the kids are from the top 10% of wealth? The schools know that, too, so they can pay less than public schools and still have a great pool of applicants to choose from. The difference is profit in the owner's pocket.

Most teachers I know would rather not ever work at a private school. Beyond the terrible parents and their dbag kids most of those jobs aren't union meaning you are a few whiny helicopter parents away from being out of a job.

At least 2 private schools in my area are having issues finding staff...and the pay isn't the problem. No one wants to deal with the admins or the parents.

I really don’t get why public schools are under such attack. I would send them in a heartbeat. I went to public school, and two different state universities, and I turned out fine. Sure, there are individual schools and districts that suffer, but that is more a case of r’s cutting instead of investing for the long term than not.

And I’m also smart enough to know that public schools can do a far better job than I can teaching.

As for the diverse input, that gives us something to talk about. Maybe I can even learn something if I listen.

The Christofascists and the anti-vaxxers are doing homeschool because their entire worldview hinges on keeping their children ignorant of science and exposure to the real world outside of their bubble. COVID just gave those folks who hadn't already taken the plunge a convenient excuse. But let's face it, remote school during COVID was too unpredictable and challenging for many kids, and there is always the fear of remote instruction returning if another strain, or a new novel virus, crops up. Also, the pool of teaching talent is being driven away from red states by ideology, away from blue states by living costs relative to teacher pay, and away from the profession altogether thanks to the Karens and Kyles who always blame the teacher for little Konner's failures.

Yeah, they don’t want the Larry Olimb treatment.

Don't take my post as an attack on public education or an advocacy for homeschooling, because it's not. However, I thought I read a few years ago about some legit studies that were done that suggest that home schooled students tended to do slightly better on standardized tests than did their counterparts from the public schools. The only reason that I recall this is that it surprised me, and seemed completely counterintuitive.

But my mind might just be playing tricks on me too.

I’m sure there are some well taught home schooled kids out there. But I would like to see updated info based on anti-science people who now home school their kids after the covid shutdown.

So one thing I thought all of humanity would have learned from this pandemic, whether you believed it or not- the value of washing your hands. I’ve been rather surprised how many men I’ve seen walk out of the stall and not wash their hands. This is after deficating, btw. Rather shocking.

Anecdotal (sample size of about 100 regulars in each place):

This job: all white collar. Everybody washes his hands.
Prior job: mostly blue collar. 50/50, at best.

I suspect it's MAGAts who don't. Poor upbringing.

I wouldn't doubt that, prior to say a decade ago, that was true. I think the current crop of homeschoolers though are going to be way behind.

The homeschoolers who do better are first generation Asian kids in ghettos whose PhD Uber-driving immigrant parents homeschool them like Kamikaze soldiers and they go to Stanford at 16.

The vast majority of homeschoolers are MAGAT Jesusf-ckistan broodsows keeping their precious babies safe from science and RIGGERS who will be lucky to matriculate at Liberty.

In fairness this is a pretty broad brush - the public schools near me always seem to be looking for staff too.
