Decided to peruse that Michiganders against Excessive Quarantine group on FB.

It is quite the ride. So far I have come across:
"Vaccines are a tracker chip" anti-vaxxers, in addition to your regular "vaccines are bad for you" anti-vaxxers.
Some anti-Fauci conspiracy, though it's a Youtube video continually being posted so I don't actually know what it is.
Michigan was chosen for extreme lockdown as the initial steps to divide towards government takeover.
Bill Gates is bad
All of this is somehow reflective of what socialized medicine looks like
and much much more!

There also appears to be a growing theory that corona was here way before (like November), a bunch of people already have it, and this is actually the second wave. Somehow I think we would've heard about a huge surge in respiration-complicated deaths before this.

There IS a theory out there, dunno how valid, that the virus was around in September, but it was not wide-spread, and flew under the radar as "just the flu." That sort of thing. I could see that. Once it became wide-spread, we all started looking closer, and basically went "holy sh*."

Very doubtful. With as fast as this spreads, we would have seen the increase in hospitalizations in November/December.

I’d say it’s almost impossible. September-December there are mass gatherings of anywhere from 500 people to 110k people packed tightly together Friday-Sunday nationwide with long distance travel from communities of every size to get to those events. Not to mention the regular day to day interactions and habits that everyone has stopped doing.

You can’t really get a better breeding ground than football season in America.

That sounds like Q Anon crap.

I'm only aware of that because I follow former NHL'er Dustin Penner on Twitter, and he seemed to have jumped into the deep end without a safety vest. So I wound up muting him so I never see his Tweets unless I search for him.

That's exactly what it is. And it's a theory that the CCP likes to push because then they can blame foreigners for "creating" it and bringing it into Jhina, as is now happening with the discrimination against Africans living there.

I found they think hospitals get extra money for every 'Rona death.
 
Memes are starting to come out about the photo of the beach in Jacksonville, and Trumpers are telling us not to believe it. I asked why we shouldn’t believe this photo but believe the one from 2016 which shows a packed Inauguration. Crickets 🦗

Ok, thanks for the info. "Out there" was the various uber-popular social media, short of the reddit/Q Anon/whatever sites which I don't follow. I didn't give much credence, b/c what is done, is done. The virus is here, so don't care how far back it goes. It's here now, so let's deal with that.

To be perfectly honest, I don't even care of the origin at this point. If some mad scientist in Abu Dhabi had some weird idea to create this and succeeded, so be it. The fact is, it exists, so let's handle it. :)

BusinessInsider (yeah, I know) ran a story with estimates that thew number of cases is probably about 10x the reported number, given all the well publicized issues with testing protocols and availability.

If that were true...

Current US cases reported: 764k, so it would be 7M

Current world cases reported: 2,4M, so it would be 24M.

However the same story cautions that in places like China the additional considerations of political manipulation mean the factor may be many times higher than 10x. (And if you have to wonder whether red states are susceptible to the same pressure for fraud.)

If this is true - and even with assuming there are deaths not being attributed to Covid that should be - the mortality rate for the virus is much, much lower than currently estimated.

If the deaths are right, they are inverses. If cases are 10x more then mortality is 10% of the estimate.

Also possible is there are 10x the deaths, with 90% being misattributed since the victims were not diagnosed.

The truth is somewhere between those end points.
