Covfefe-19: We're all getting $5/hour more in hazard pay!

Thanks.

Unfortunately she’s not in a union and maybe thankfully she’s not a nurse. I told her I imagine the nursing union is going to push back on that. Especially given that other hospitals are requiring PPE.

She’s at will. I just didn’t know if this opens her up to legal jeopardy if she gets sick or something I’m not even seeing.

My guess is her hospital is taking that step for a number of reasons. Might be worried Minnesota ultimately counts these as work comp claims. Might be worried family members of patients claim the hospital isn’t following best practices. Might just have concluded it’s a good idea. I’d be surprised if they’re setting up employees for termination. They’re going to need all hands on deck.

Sorry about the mistake regarding your wife’s job. I had it in my head she was a nurse.

I've never met him, but have heard the name well before he contracted it. Sounds like one of those "loved by everyone" people. We got an email from our counterparts at SWA today expressing support and asking ways they can help.
Sorry to hear that. Hope he proves them wrong!

How do they not ask him if he ate a lot of paint chips when he was a kid?

I saw that and thought- good idea- lets cover why they need all those masks. You asked- let's publish just why they need then you a hole.
Thanks.

I would think it is to protect from people coming to work sick because they can't afford to stay home.
They taught us in Nursing School that if you had an assignment that you felt was unsafe but couldn't refuse because they patient would end up without care you should document your concerns and ask it be inserted into your employee file. That way you had documentation you didn't agree but were working under duress. Not sure if that might help

(and the grammar horse neighed at the run on sentence!)

5OT, yeah, that dipsh-t was one of the reasons I left GPL. He’s one of the worst humans I’ve ever come across.

I used this handle on GPL when I was a frequent poster there from 2009-2014 or so, and I’ll confirm he was a dipsh-t.. I flaunted the no politics rule there back then because I was young, a d-ck, and hadn’t discovered this mostly Democratic cesspool of a website yet, but his responses to people who disagreed with him were something else.

Re: Covfefe-19: We're all getting $5/hour more in hazard pay!

Watching Elton John live for the fundraiser. Lottsa people who will touch the younger crowd. Hmmmm. I bet they don't invite the DUmp.

Re: Covfefe-19: We're all getting $5/hour more in hazard pay!

Just found out that my mom’s cousin and his wife in FL both have it. He’s in ICU and the family has given permission for experimental treatments while she is suffering at home alone. They’re about 30 minutes away from us, and there is literally nothing we can do to help - devastating.

F this disease and F anyone whose ever put stopping it as a lower priority than: poll numbers, re-elections, the Dow, the national debt, insurance company profits, stopping socialism, Spring Break, the next shift at the restaurant, family events, hanging out with friends, going out for a drink, and pretty much anything else right now.

We’re managing to stay at home with 2 kids under the age of 3. What’s your excuse?

Stay the F home.
Stop this Fing virus.

Thinking of you and your family...very sorry this happened....

Re: Covfefe-19: We're all getting $5/hour more in hazard pay!

injecting a bit of positivity- uncle les is home! He had side effects from the treatment they used so had to wait until he got that resolved but he is HOME!! SO incredibly grateful.
::breathes sigh of relief::

All my positive thinking is going towards them. I can imagine your helplessness.

:( Can't think of anything to say except hang in there. Know the feeling of rage when your fam is in danger and others don't get it.

Nothing has changed!

I know you didn't, for sure. I was directing my frustration to the public health officials in the UP.

As for the specific date, no I don't know- I was told on the 20th. They just stuck it out at home, as they were told there was not test kits whenever they felt bad. And they do work for one of the big markets in the area (can't be specific) who I would bet they got the direction from.

I more feel sorry for the people who would be taking it seriously, had they been told. By the time I heard, we'd been working from home for a week, and it was a while since Governor Whitmer shut the state down.

Had they gone to the hospital, it would have been the one in Hancock (where I got 10 stitches in my knee almost 40 years ago...).

I’ve been told today’s case is a Walmart employee ( and really, that’s the only biggish store up here) - so possibly the same patient zero?

Ugh. I’m sorry man. Best wishes.

Good.

The orcs I know will call it fake because media matters is the source.

In defense of Jup and GPL, 5OT hardly ever posts and the no politics rule is good 99% of the time. Someone should have given him a t.o. instead of locking the thread, but 5OT's overall footprint there is barely measurable for quite some time. And there are still plenty of good folks there.

/soft rant over ;)

I was telling my wife that it was a good thing it was on FOX. I know some people who will say that it was propaganda by the liberal elite to get you to give up your rights  At least with it being on Fox it mitigates that a little.

Agreed, but it’s happened enough and he never gets a time out. Gonna keep happening when there’s no punishment. So I just won’t waste any more time - it’s happened in a lot of threads over the years, even really innocent ones.

I'm with Slappy here. 99% of the time, it's a good site to banter about. I do wish the hammer would come done a little harder at times, but not my site, not my rules, not my place.

What’s there to be “with” on? I’m not begrudging anyone for thinking differently than me nor asking them to be.
