All high-profile elected officials (all US senators and representatives) were asked to get the vaccine early to help promote the vaccination campaign. Publicity. This gets it out in front of we commoners, and will help encourage more people that the vaccines are safe and the idea that everybody's doing it.
 
And I expected to see more on here about the new strain of COVID-19 that's surfaced in England. It's up to 70% more infectious than the common strain. Yay! Yay?...Boo!

I watched Osterholm talking about it on the CBS morning news today.

I feel like these stories come up every 6-8 weeks (alongside the "OMG PEOPLE ARE CATCHING IT AGAIN" ones).

30 countries have already blocked travel to/from Britain due this development. Now they're only about 180 countries behind us!

It’s more than a BFD. it’s reminding me a lot of March. This one is pretty scary. Doesn’t seem to be any more deadly, but if it spreads faster, we are starting to approach measles territory in the high aughts, low teens for r naught.
 
Two reasons to be optimistic, I read moderna already tested the current vaccine in animals vs this new strain and said it was still effective.

The second is that mRNA vaccines can be modified pretty quickly if needed. Not sure if protocols for trials have been thought out that far, but it would be a discussion worth having now by the CDC.
 
It could very well be a big deal, but I'm far beyond letting the media scare me into thinking anything on COVID.

My hospital's chief of infectious disease has repeatedly suggested we all ignore scary headlines.
 
Ok, UK govt are saying this is 70% more transmissible but that only represents and r naught increase of 0.4.

Reason 836 I didn’t get into biology.

Sometimes I think that you guys would prefer that we spend the next six months ranking everyone from 1 to 330 million, based upon your definition of "sponge worthiness," then spend the next two years biatching that it took so long to get everyone vaccinated.
 
Sometimes I think you are trying to make jokes and be funny...then I read your posts again and pray you werent because you failed so amazingly ;^)

But the only ranking that matters to me is if you denied it exists or you insulted health care workers. That is an automatic opt out until everyone else gets their's. If it is a hoax anyways and if the health care workers you now laud were being accused of fraud by you as late in the year as September you forfeit. After that I don't much care what order they put it in.
