I have less of a problem with AOC than Lady G or Little Marco- at least Alexandria has tried to get relief to people, so that they can stay home and survive.
Lady G and Marco has more fought to let people die.
Since Thanksgiving, the count of currently hospitalized Covid patients in the USA has increased by 26%. Interestingly, more than 1/2 of this growth has come from just two states: California and New York. If only they had locked down and worn masks!
New York - Got a pass for last Spring because it was new. Then they crushed the virus and the Governor got an emmy.

It's fine for Members to get them, very publicly. It breaks down fear and resistance. Black and conservative Members should actually be prioritized since those communities have conspiracy theories about vaccines (which, yes, I realize, the Members themselves have amplified).

I dont think it maximizes benefit as much as you think it does. If all the health care workers get it but half the rest of us don't that is a major problem. That is why we need a wide swatch of people in the public eye to take them. We need buy in ASAP. We dont have the resources to worry about this later.
The majority of the early doses should go to health care workers and those of highest risk but we need some that are also used as positive PR. If polling is even close to right there is going to be a lot of issues with getting the percentages we need for immunity. We need to fight that now.

Right, but it won’t matter if they get it now or after phase 1A-2. That PR campaign should start with the president and VP. The speaker, Pro Tempore, and Sec of State. The governor of each state. Then get every last dose to the people fighting this. Then the most at risk. Then you can start vaccinating a few of the pols.
Whatever benefit this PR campaign you think will have isn’t going to matter one iota. Maybe in the black community where there’s a valid and healthy mistrust. The problem isn’t going to be fixed because the people that refuse to get it have melted their brains with virtual toxic waste. They aren’t going to change their minds because government is getting it. That’s lunacy to believe otherwise.

And the point of this first phase isn’t to stop the spread. It’s to make sure our doctors and nurses aren’t dying from this. It’s going to be bad until end of spring. The vaccine in the quantities we have isn’t going to do a **** thing.

I got dose 1 of the Pfizer vaccine wednesday evening. My arm was sore thursday, and so far that's been it for side effects.
I felt mixed emotions about getting it before many actual patient-facing clinical staff, but it was the end of the night and there was one dose left after all the clinical staff present had received theirs. It was either me or the trash, and at this point unnecessarily discarding even a single dose is a crime.
All the same, I'm super glad I got it. I had no intention of getting it - I honestly just wanted to be present on such an incredibly historic day. Plus I worked my tail off to prepare for it so I wanted to be there in case help was necessary.

Have to respectfully disagree with those saying the people on the Hill shouldn't get it for a few reasons-
-There are a lot of old goats up on the Hill. They are at risk.
-we have no idea how many of them have pre-existing condn's that may qualify them
-If you hit up the people who actually qualify and leave out the rest then you have a wonderland for the conspiracy theorist to say those who didn't take it are in the know. it is much more powerful to show the whole body of them are getting it.
-The idjits like Marco et al are walking vectors who circulate among the covidiots. This is akin to having antivaxxers get a vaccine- they get it and it sends a message you want people to see. From my perspective it is like a humbling for them. RIght up on stage they are taking an imm that shows they think there is at risk.

This is a simplistic analysis, I will give you that. But until the front line is inoculated, we don’t have enough to give to anyone else. The pols could wait two weeks for the second wave. Hell, they should be working from home.

I don't know that I agree that worthless congress critters getting vaccinated prevents or even really delays clinical staff. Every hospital in the country is working to vaccinate necessary staff, and a few hundred (or even a few thousand) doses isn't slowing any of us down.
Yeah, it bugs me to see people that are actively part of the problem getting vaccinated while my dad has to wait a couple of months, but life is seldom fair.
