I just got "told" by some nitwit Trumpist how the cost of deferred care and the toll on mental health from what (paltry) measures we've taken would far outweigh the cost of COVID.
First of all, that's absolutely and wildly inaccurate. There is a cost, to be sure, and it will be felt for a long time. But it's a fraction of the near quarter million deaths (and counting) directly from COVID, plus those who'll die in the future, plus the long term impacts we're only beginning to learn about.

But more importantly, since when to Republicans give a flying crap about mental health? or population health? This is someone who supports the same guy who made fun of a handicapped journalist and routinely impugns the mental acuity of anyone who dares criticize him. His supporters constantly denigrate those with mental health issues. And now the crocodile tears for them?
Sorry, hypocrites, I ain't buying it.
So far in my personal life I have had
-an engineer tell me, in March, I was clueless and there would be no more than 12K cases IN THE WORLD and then post soon after that we were over the peak and it would be gone by May.
-a person who works in the cleaning business tell me I was spreading negativity, she was choosing to be positive and knew it wouldn't be as bad as my fear mongering self made it out to be
-a lawyer tell me I was brainwashed by the left, that alternately this was manufactured by China and it was a hoax
-a nurse I worked with in the past start posting on FB this was not as bad as they claimed, people don't get that sick, it was a way to keep the Dump from a second term. Posted facts- screw me
-a domestic engineer tell me I was brainwashed by the Lefties, that I was looking at the wrong stats (and to save me typing- fill in all the other bvullsh1t the wacko R wing sites post).
-a college professor tell me it can't be bad because her kids neeeeeeeed to be social and it is ridiculous that they be expected to not see people
-an insurance salesman/financial advisor tell me I was interpreting the data all wrong and it wasn't as bad as I thought.
Meanwhile
-Currently have 3 relatives in various stages of active disease, another who had it in March and isn't recovered.
-53 patients and a staff member where I worked last Fall died, former patients in my Practice- have also died.
-friends working have gotten it. One is still unable to work at full capacity
-5 people from my church died before this week, 2 more this week, more have been ill
-the deaths in my STATE are >10k
-they are reopening field hospital capacity
-my town is hovering close to red but only because they redid what makes you red.
-friends who have issues with mental health struggling because they are afraid of all the dip twinkies who refuse to be safe and are having parties, not masking etc.
I have ZERO patience for the nimrods claiming that we should let people die because of the toll on mental health. If you want to help people with their mental health you can start by acknowledging there is an issue and that the country is willing to do something about it. Act responsible so people who need to go out can do so at least feeling there is an attempt at safety. ANd of course they will have less issues if they don't have loved ones die or get really sick
Who knew I had the ability to have so much rage inside me and that I could sustain outrage for this long. It has not abated, only gotten worse.
