I was looking at the death numbers. In over ten states, one in a thousand people have died from covid in 7 months. In New Jersey they’re closing in on 1/500.
The early twin towers, NY and NJ, should get an asterisk. They were the first on the beach so their numbers are skewed insanely high. They were hit when we knew nothing and when the airwaves and interwebs had not been saturated with warnings. I think it is a much more fair comparison to start the clock on everybody in June, and from then on NY and NJ are on line with the other first world states.
The really scary places are those that have actually been rising as we learn more, which suggests some combination of local government malfeasance and anti-science in the population to the level of cult mass suicide proportions. So, ID, MT, ND, SD, WI, IA, NE, and especially FL are really bad.
I'm pretty sure I read around here that everyone knew or should have known back in February and March how dangerous this would be, and anyone with even a half a brain and willing to act could have prevented all but just a few deaths in this country.

And your point is what? Does that somehow excuse the more recent outbreaks and deaths when we know even more than we did in Feb and March?
Yea, we didn't do enough in Feb and March. Lots of people died. The fact that people are still getting sick and dying when we know more and have more actions is kind of bad, if you ask me.
My point is that Kep wants to give a pass to NY and NJ because they had their turn early on. They had their turn early on because they're the entry point for the world traveling to the US, and the world had it before us. But NY and NJ didn't handle this really any better than anyone else. They have a higher proportion of deaths only because the medical community has better figured out how to treat patients with the virus.
Everyone, sooner or later, was going to get their turn at this virus.
I was looking at this neat map that I'll link to below that showed the cases on a state or county basis since back at the beginning.
What is fun is to go back to say March 1, look at the map, then go to April 1, May 1, June 1, etc..., and watch the color patterns.
It starts in the Pacific Northwest. Next it's the Northeast.
By June the country settles way down, but then in July and August you see the entire southern 40% of the country bathed in dark colors.
From there it worked it's way into the midwest and upper midwest, where it's at now.
Yeah, if you're a state, you can take the edge off how hard it will hit you by requiring masks, reducing the number of people who are in businesses, etc..., but you're still going to get hit, and get hit hard.

"Rounding the corner toward herd mentality" is what he meant.
Also, it's nonsense that there's nothing that can or could have been done to slow the spread. We're going to have vaccines (plural) within another couple of months. Public health measures like mask mandates and reduced occupancy go a long way in controlling the spread until we can vaccinate. The fact that the Administration got bored with it in April and decided, after the fact, that there was nothing to be done anyway doesn't change that.
And I think some of us with actual degrees and experience in epidemiology explained this back then too.
so sick of the bs that there wasn’t anything anyone could do to stop the spread. It’s as bad as pretending trickle down economics works
