So, the two week lag.

Exactly. Like f-cking clockwork.

Turns out business is no better than religion at repealing the cold equations of science.

This week should see the beginnings of the effect on my town and county of the Memorial Day holiday. We shall see what's in store.

I saw news stories that there was only one positive case from that petri dish at Lake of the Ozarks (or whatever that place is named). I find that hard to believe.

Maybe they have the "Floridian Pneumonia"

Still don't buy it. I've been told everything is fine because not all Minnesotans are dead.

I feel like the Trumpsters are the ones who would refuse a vaccine anyway, or think they don't need it (like they don't need to be quarantined or wear a mask) so I don't know how well an October surprise vaccine would go over right before the election.

Some of my Dumpy relatives have already said they won't get it.

Jeb - you're exactly right that the 1% are going to escaped unscathed, quarantining on their yachts in the Caribbean. You're exactly wrong that this is in any way fair, just, or moral. The government could fund a lockdown through June 2021, heck probably through June 2023, if we actually had the guts to tax the 1% and make them share in a small fraction of the pain that laid-off, low-wage workers are feeling. But how much pain, really, is it is if a 1%er has to sell his 3rd airplane so that thousands of people can not starve and can avoid a deadly pandemic? Let me find my tiny violin.

No one is staying home anyways. People quit on caring.

The 1% are off taking care of themselves by getting away, sheltering from harm. All the while convincing people to go back to work and make them even more money. It's worth it to them for people to die for their sake of money. Just look at Jeb- before I put him on the ignore list, he clearly was not going to leave his bunker- pointed that out many times- and yet is demanding that others go out. Pretty great to force others to go out and risk their lives for you, and you are not willing to do the same.

That's the kind of leadership we have.

And it's not like it's really that surprising- as the russian party is more than willing to go to war, especially when 1) their family is not at risk, 2) their taxes will never pay for the war, and 3) they will probably make money one way or another by the war. Kill both the "enemy" and US citizens for their profit.

There's no surprise that they are also willing to sacrifice the working public for their money.

This. Already noticed an increase in traffic this past Saturday night around 11p. The grills have been fired up, the bonfires have been stoked, the beers have been cracked, and the joints have been rolled. It's over.

Around here the split is straight smart / dumb. You can predict which cars will pull out of the parking lot in the morning based on whether the bumper sticker is a tier 1 school or the NRA.

I’m guessing athletic departments will want their money so if students are indeed on campus, we’ll have football. And my season tickets won’t be refunded if foootball is happening- making me either try to sell each game or risk covid by going.

Well I know the Big Ten said if class is in session on campus then they will sanction football. There is no way anyone will fight them on it. I am not sure what the policy will be about attendance. Glad I gave up my tickets a few years back.

Again locking down healthy people is absurd. And suggesting some sort of blanket solution for 325 million people is even more so.

Was your solution the one to provide income during the lockdown period? I saw something about that but your posts are very long winded and go in multiple directions. Were you saying as long as income was provided we should lockdown as long as “needed.” When did the narrative change from flatten the curve as to not overwhelm healthcare systems to lockdown until the crisis is over?

Go back and reread my post. No where did I compare what is going on to the flu. I was using it as an example and since the flu happens every year we know it will be here this year, next, and so on. The question was what is “your” threshold for the “new normal.” The same question can be applied to Covid if it becomes seasonal but we don’t know that yet so I didn’t use it as an example.

So what is your threshold for drastic measures moving forward?

Jeb, sorry if my post wasn’t easy to follow. First, as Handy pointed out and, you actually admitted from your own research, our country has a significant number of people who have underlying conditions due to lack of general overall health. Thus, a greater percentage of our population is obviously more susceptible to the virus. Meaning, we’re likely to have more deaths if we don’t lock down. When this all started, the majority of models were predicting over a million dead if we didn’t lock things down. Obviously, considers where deaths are currently at, the lockdown did its job. However, with the way we’re opening and when — not one state has met the CDC guidelines for opening — this means we’ll definitely have more unnecessary and preventable deaths than we otherwise would have. And, it seems as though your main mantra is why are we locking down all these healthy people, especially considering what it does to the economy. That’s where my point that we could’ve done this like Canada and other Western European countries did and just paid all adults 2-3K per month until we have a vaccine. That way, we really kill off the virus and, not only do we cut the unnecessary and preventable deaths down from 250,000 down to around 125-150,000 instead AND.... we keep the economy moving along just fine.

Yeah I mean I wish I hadn’t paid in full...but they asked for it and I did it.

Makes me a little more cautious about hockey and likely no way I give full payment for that
