Fine, but as someone trained in epidemiology I’m Going to point out incorrect or incomplete statements when I see them.

I just want to say how much I appreciate your posts. It is like a breath of fresh air and very validating.

There are people out there pointing out there is zero increase in cases, picking and choosing their spots, also. Those people are also not looking at the overall picture.

OVERALL, from what we know, the spread is slowing. Slowing being the key word. Still the first wave. There hasn't been a complete lull. When we reach a complete lull, that is when the second wave starts.

Are those enough crossed t's and dotted i's for you? Sheesh. I forgot that this is the internet and everyone needs everything spelled out for them because they can't understand a general idea or thought.

No it isn't. WIth the exception of the states that were hit first and actually responded no one else seems to be doing better. There is no way to assume slowing with lack of testing and with the latest media blitz by the Orange Offal about how they really aren't dying of this

Sigh. FROM WHAT WE KNOW. That does not mean we know everything at this point. We are going on what we know at this point in time. This is not difficult to understand. Next week? Hopefully we know more, and adjust decisions based again on....guess what? WHAT WE KNOW.

No we are not going on what we know. If we were going on what we know at this time the CF that is occurring would not be. If we were going on what we know we would have access to the full set of guidelines the CDC was trying to put out before the a55licker who heads the CDC pulled them back and watered them down. We would not have the medical and nursing national organizations challenging the CDC for trying to relax things without using evidence based medicine.

I mentioned it on Twitter, this (for the older folks) is like the first cases of AIDS. We didn't know what hit us. We had no idea what the hell this virus really is. We're trying to do the best we can (well, let me clarify: most governors are).

This is not true. Unfortunately medical people knew. Epidemiologists knew. Pretty much anyone who follows this type of thing knew and was screaming a warning. The Dump chose to ignore it all. We didn't know specifics but we knew enough to do much, much better.

The only similarity to HIV was the fact that there was a lot of misinformation about it going around, and the perception of invincibility by a large portion of the public.

Ugh. I like that stuff is re-opening, that's no secret, but there is a right way and a wrong way to do it. WI is doing it the wrong way. And this is not a WI bias talking.

Some day you will get there is no right way that is being floated at this time

We know:

Social distancing helps.
Masks are not really effective, but they are better than nothing (edit: except N95)
Elderly are way more susceptible, as well as people with other certain underlying health issues.
Half-lifes on various surfaces that have been touched by the virus.
A general variance on fatality rate overall (although that range will narrow in scope as more testing happens)
We know what drugs are NOT working (that was a big f-up, however)


Compare that to what we knew in Feb/early March. There's a long way to go. We are making progress, though.

Umm, we pretty much knew all that in Feb/Mar.

You missed the point about drugs, it isn't about what drugs don't work, it is about what drug will, and truth is, most people knew trumps fish tank cleaner was a non-starter as soon as he uttered the words. Your statement about masks in this post proves the point I was making, there are so many variables we don't know more now than we did 3 months ago. And you are flat out wrong about us knowing how long this virus really lives on any surface because again, too many variables. In laboratory conditions we can estimate it as 4 hours on one surface, 24 on another, or many days on still another. But factor in sunlight, varying degrees of temperature and humidity, even the wind on surfaces outside and you really don't know if it will live for 4 hours on that picnic table in the park or 4 days.

So, we knew the hydro was not a fix? Um, check yourself there. There was a brief moment where that was a possibility. And we do know ranges of half-lifes on surfaces. The mask thing has been dissected enough where it won't hurt, agreed, but it's not like that sweet etsy mask you bought is better than an N95. It may (MAY) not be effective at all. Too many variables in how you wear it, the material, if you decided to take it off for a few seconds then put it back on without sanitizing, etc.

While even death and horrible illness will not change the minds of most trump supporters, it is the only shot we have left. As mentioned before, they will hide it. It's come and gone in small red state communities without any mention. Lots of people died, and hospitals were full. Didn't make the news and no testing was done.

On a side note about these rural people, it's interesting that there are more reports about rural hospitals going out of business. Why? Because they don't make money. Since profit is far, far more important than helping people. This is where we are, now. And this profit is also why healthcare for all is so evil. Interestingly enough, because the lack of hospitals- there will be a lot of people who will never be tested, and some will die. Of causes.

Meanwhile, here in Holland, MI, we have this woman, who says God told her to reopen her salon.

My favorite breakfast place is next door to her salon, and I'm not going anywhere near that corner while the Dumpies are milling about. There have been organized protests (by Dumpies) and a whole lot of germs being spread.
