Re: Covfefe-19 Part 9: Shelter In Place is Temporary, but Wu-Tang is Forever

Are people really that desperate to be out and about? Are they just this frickin' stupid? I've said it before, you can open bars tomorrow, I'm not gonna be there.

What the eff is wrong with people?

I'm with you on this. The same with golfing. I don't get the need to make opening courses such a priority. I saw a tweet this morning that said the less bad numbers we've been seeing this week are the product of our behavior 2-5 weeks ago (i.e. April). In June we'll find out the consequences of what's happening now.

Lady on ND last night yelled that anyone who doesn’t have toddlers needs to **** and pools, etc need to be open or people will start starving and killing themselves. What alarmed me the most was how many people agreed with her

My condo association sent notification that our pool area, including the grills, is closed till further notice. It's not very big. The pool cover came off early April as they needed to do maintenance on the pump/filter/whatever. The water has not been treated and I can't see any time soon where the local Board of Health will give the OK for people to swim in it. I'm hoping they just put the pool cover back on because I'm sure some residents will disregard any notification to stay out. My unit overlooks the pool and I absolutely will be narc-ing on people if they break the rules.

In plenty of places we might not find out the consequences of what is happening now. Some states are really beginning to ramp up their procedures for hiding/undercounting coronavirus related deaths. These states might start reporting North Korea like numbers. And the White House will definitely be going this route when the campaign starts to move into full swing. By the fall, the right wing will be severely downplaying this and my guess is the average trump supporter will believe it when trump starts saying "we looked more closely at the numbers and it appears that far fewer actually died from coronavirus than originally stated." I look for trump to start quoting numbers that are shrinking. And for his dupes and rubes to believe those numbers and to spread the lies far and wide. As always, the question is whether or not enough of the 60% will turn out to vote, and whether or not enough of their votes will be counted in the right places.

Just empty it.

Re: Covfefe-19 Part 9: Shelter In Place is Temporary, but Wu-Tang is Forever

Apparently Illinois had the highest number of deaths in a 24 hour period yesterday, the same day neighboring state Wisconsin decided all is well and we should flock to bars and restaurants. Northwestern University has suggested the state could see 50-300 die every day from the effects of the coronavirus in Illinois through June. That's at least 2400 more just in Illinois.

I'm asking again, how many people need to die before everyone takes this seriously. When we wake up Monday morning, it will be over 90,000, and that number is obviously far short of a real crisis in the minds of a large minority in this country. I wonder anymore if there even IS a number. Maybe the dead and dying themselves have to so overwhelm our society before the rest of this country will wake up, and I'm thinking that would be 1918-1919 pandemic like numbers based on today's population, and that would be over 2,000,000. I doubt we will see numbers like that (although I don't doubt raw numbers like 1918/19, 750,000 or so) so my guess is republicans will never take this seriously.

It will be only when someone they know dies, and that will occur on a case by case basis, so there will be no overwhelming groundswell in people changing their minds. It won't matter until it affects them. And maybe not even then

Unless you start seeing whole towns in multiple rural areas disappearing to this disease will the yokels maybe finally wake up and decide this might be serious. Like, towns of 200 or less, and half the residents die from this.

I wonder how many people on Nextdoor might be troll accounts...

I doubt many. It is an extremely old, unhip crowd. Nobody would bother. It's 95% about brats' milkweed allergies and pie recipes.

It's the electronic personification of the Midwest.

I don't think there's a lot of fakes, but it obviously still isn't an accurate representation of the population. I'm on next door, but never post or comment because I don't feel the need to whine about everything or engage with people that do. I hope there are a lot of others like that, and then of course a lot of people that aren't on it at all.

Plenty of Karens on the West Coast too, you know.

Oh mostly they are.

The thing about Karens is they're well off and educated. They should know better. Nobody calls Prairie racists entitled: that's just the Poors fighting for our table scraps.

Yeah if the winter has a normal flu season that will cause a ton of problems. If it is a particularly bad flu winter...buckle up.

Here's the thing, wouldn't they go more in lock-step? If people start to get sick, they'll self-isolate which also reduces the flu counts. I+P+C now.

I'm genuinely curious what people would like to be able to do that they can't do now. What freedoms are they lacking?

Here's some more data on Kawasaki disease in children from Italy. Still a small % of kids, but a 3000% increase from before. But I hear they do really well with the disease and should go back to school.

I remember Kawaski being mentioned on House a couple of times. That's all I need to know about that disease to know it's not one of the good ones.

That's 40k shy of all US deaths in the Korean War.

Right now, 90k would be the Revolutionary War (50k) PLUS the Iraq War '03 (36,710) PLUS the Gulf War '90 (1,143)

You're counting on people to do the right thing. Your optimism is so cute.
