Covfefe-19 part 6: Waiting For Advice from Kid Rock and Tiger Woods now.

Re: Covfefe-19 part 6: Waiting For Advice from Kid Rock and Tiger Woods now.

I’m in the painful position of having to gently rebut a three-week ancient opinion piece by a doctor who says it’s just the flu, we should all meet up and pick each other’s noses to quickly develop herd immunity to save lives. This passed along from a well-loved relative of mine.
Anyway, any help finding best current estimates of r-naught/transmissibility and death rates? Is there one source that might be more current or better than some others?

Yeah my gf has relatives who are passing around articles from the Murdoch Empire about Trump's miracle cure...these people are just beyond saving.

Speaking of that:

Re: Covfefe-19 part 6: Waiting For Advice from Kid Rock and Tiger Woods now.

Well, I came into work today and have been useless since getting here.

They set up a temperature screening outside, so you can't come in the building if you have a fever, or answer wrong to the screening questions.

My temperature reading was 99.5. You're allowed in as long as you're under 100.4. I know that I usually read low, like 97.9-98.3. So now I don't know if I have a fever, or it's just a not so accurate thermometer, the heat was on in my car (it's a drive through screening), etc.
Either way I'm paranoid and interpreting everything as a possible symptom, maybe thinking myself into feeling symptoms. Meanwhile I was cleared to enter the building, but I'm spending a lot of time wondering if I should go home.

Doing my best to keep any potential germs to myself.

Probability you are sick times damage you would inflict vs probability you are OK times help you would provide. Let the math decide.

Very nice ethical dilemma, by the way, and not a trolly car in sight.

Re: Covfefe-19 part 6: Waiting For Advice from Kid Rock and Tiger Woods now.

Culture is always the first thing to be commodified. Youth Culture in particular has no existence beyond commodities and marketing.

Corporate-sponsored consciousness is just another way to get eyeballs and sales. Obviously religions pioneered this way to get rich, and political movements perfected it.

Christianity. Conservatism. Consumerism. All the same business model. Profit from brand loyalty by pandering to prevalent norms.
Very well put.
Is this from the first "Gang of Four" album?

That's ridiculous, and I don't want these f-cks prowling around Phoenix and my daughter.

If they want to put the games somewhere put them in Greenland, not a metropolitan area with 5 million people.

It seems like they're being thoughtful about risks, anyway. I hesitate to set a firm date a month from now (who knows if the country will still exist, for one thing) but they would probably have to set a tentative schedule at some point a few weeks distant. I have a feeling it will get pushed back to July 4 or so.... but given that the most important challenge facing the country at this point is to get the USCHO Fantasy Baseball League up and running, I don't hate the premise.

That's not a bad idea... or maybe in Ontonagon or the Misery Bay ballfield?

Re: Covfefe-19 part 6: Waiting For Advice from Kid Rock and Tiger Woods now.

I dont really like anything about Arizona or its people. Id rather they gave the economic boost to someone else.

Surely with no fans, no restaurants (hotel quarantine), no events, it will be more burden to the area, than boost. Other than for the hotels they take over.

AZ liberals are awesome. As with most states, it's the conservatives that give the place a bad name. (The only places where the liberals are just as bad as the conservatives are Massachusetts and the San Francisco Peninsula).

And if you don't like the Grand Canyon I can't help you.

Who doesn't like a large hole in the ground? (overrated)
I can sense somebody out there already googling "image:grand canyon" to prove me wrong. Listen, I can take a cool picture of a pothole on my street, in good light.

Your world is poorer. That harms nobody but you.

They're pretty awful in Western Oregon and Western Washington these days, too. The ones in Oregon are Bay-area transplants and the ones in Washington are east coast transplants, so it all makes sense. :)

It's actually a debilitating fear of heights that brings out the mock scorn. I like mountains from a distance, but make me drive up those switchbacks and I'll have nightmares for a month. Same think touring the grand canyon (still, I've done it twice, for the sake of others). I still haven't found the courage to even watch the movie Free Solo, I get cold sweats just thinking about watching it from my living room on a laptop.

Is it a fear of heights or a fear of falling? Like being in an airplane is still heights. But generally safe.

In all seriousness I would put my acrophobia against anyone's -- I passed out looking up at airplanes as a kid because I would imagine myself out on the wing -- but (1) the thing about the Canyon is you can enjoy it as broad more than deep; it's like looking out onto a frozen rough ocean of rock, and (2) I survived Free Solo in my living room (I did not have the nerve for IMAX; maybe someday).
