Covfefe 19: now in 3D

Re: Covfefe 19: now in 3D

Yes, I have all these things. I have to ask people to turn off the TV or radio because I can't concentrate on what they are saying. I can't screen any ambient noise out so bars and loud restaurants are horrible. I have to mute ads and I use noise cancelling headphones where I can and white noise generators where I must.

This is what it's like out in Ape World.
100% with you.
A couple friends and I were talking about this, last weekend. We can't tune out everything, and we hear everything. Might be fragments of stuff that we hear clearly, because of overlap, but we hear just about everything. Drives us nuts.

We've dubbed it "The Daredevil" Effect. If you're familiar with the Netflix show (or the comic, which I am unfamiliar with)...you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Re: Covfefe 19: now in 3D

People are f-ing stupid

At F Street Station downtown, the mood was decidedly defiant.

“I think Mayor Berkowitz is trying to make a statement for himself,” said bar manager Lori Henderson.

A sign on the door of the bar summed up some people’s frustration at the mayor’s decision:

“THANK’S A LOT BERKY, YOUR PAYCHECK JUST KEEPS ON COMING, THE PEOPLE WHO WORK IN THIS BUSINESS DON’T GET TO ENJOY THOSE BENNIES.”

...

Henderson said she thinks the decision was premature. Standing in front of the bar and restaurant’s famous communal block of cheddar cheese, Henderson said the mayor is overreacting to the growing crisis.

“There’s only been one case here and he came here on a cargo flight from somewhere else,” said Henderson, who spoke before the second and third cases had been announced to the public.

Kind of ironic since F Street is a bar known to be frequented by air crews staying over.

My guess is “some” can. Obviously fast food places will be relatively fine. Others might be able to ramp up a take out business. Fine dining, probably not.

My concern is that with mass layoffs, eating out may not be an option, unless you want Mickey D’s every day.

They're already telling you eating out isn't an option. Jesus Christ.

Mitt Romney is strongly behind this, too. Most likely, something like this is going to happen. (Heck, even the Republicans are saying a payroll tax cut is ridiculous, but they know something has to be done.) From what I read, the thinking is for any adult making under $65,000.

But I thought it was all a hoax.

Also, who knew Tom Cotton was a Socialist?

Re: Covfefe 19: now in 3D

Hey, I want money too (that I would just save and probably use towards buying a foreclosed home)

I live in a tourist town with tons of Air B&Bs. If any of those go into foreclosure I’m seriously considering buying it and turning it into a year round rental

There is a huge demand for year round places, but they are never as profit as shot terms. (Until the lockdown)

My conversation with DGF was about take out. I consider any prepared meal that I purchase, and didn't prepare myself, to be "eating out," whether I actually consume that meal at the restaurant, at my desk, in my home, or anywhere else. Maybe it's just me, but that's what I meant by "eating out." Even if restaurants are still open for take out, with tons of people laid off I don't know how much demand for "eating out" (my definition) there will be.

Re: Covfefe 19: now in 3D

We just split the workforce into 2 teams working alternate weeks. My company will not pick up any hours for exempts and only allow 60-hour on weeks, so for the duration we'll be burning 40 hours of PTO per month and, when that (quickly) exhausts, LWOP.

Bad idea, means testing. Much cheaper and easier to make it up on taxes. Just cut every American a check for $1k a month.

Else, how do you factor furloughs, lwop, etc.? If I’m making $120k and suddenly lose half my income because I’m off every other week, how does that work?

Stupid.

Re: Covfefe 19: now in 3D

So I’m out of a job, that I just got a week ago, after not working for 5 months. This is ridiculous. Let’s have a payroll tax cut when no one has a paycheck  good news sorta iid that when this whole thing blows over, I’ll be welcomed back

That is how it might get implemented. Everyone gets a check. Then, when you do your taxes, if you are over $65K, you give the money back.
