Re: Covfefe 19: now in 3D

For some numbers:
60.5 Mil Population of Italy.
24,747 confirmed cases
= .0004 of population.
And a death rate of 0.073.

At current Italy rates: US population affected:
327.2 Million
×.0004 = 130,880
×.073 = 10,000 dead.

As of right now. Italy hasn't peaked yet (thanks to mandatory quarantine).

Re: Covfefe 19: now in 3D

If the numbers above hold and the US Population becomes 100% infected:
7.3% Italy = 23.8 Million Potential Dead in US
5.3% Wuhan = 17.3 Mil
3.0% Nominal = 9.8 Mil
0.8% S. Korea = 2.6 Mil

For perspective, this would eliminate:
7.3 - Entire state population of Florida AND New Mexico
5.3 - Entire state population of Pennsylvania AND Kentucky
3.0 - Entire city population of New York City and San Antonio
0.8 - Entire city population of Chicago.

Has any of the sample points here attached to 100% infection?

Re: Covfefe 19: now in 3D

Some of the people standing up next to and behind trump for his news rallies, er uh I mean news conferences, are good and qualified people I'm sure, but the more times they stand beside him and let him lie the worse this is going to be. So when he stands up there and lies about the swine flu and the Biden and Obama response, the Anthony Fauci's of the world have to go right to the podium and "correct" him. They don't need to say "my fellow Americans, your president just intentionally lied to you," but they do need to immediately say what is correct about whatever trump lied about. If they don't they are complicit. We know a good number of them are. I'd like to believe some of them are not. The self congratulatory nature of these conferences need to end. The press would do well also to direct as many questions as possible to the real scientists and leaders that are assembled. Why they insist on asking trump a question that will only allow him to lie is bad strategy. Give Dr. Fauci an opportunity to tell the truth and offer something useful. Don't give trump or one of his bobbleheads an opportunity to lie.

Re: Covfefe 19: now in 3D

For the life of me I don't understand how Brent (and apparently most republicans) do not understand the simple concept that there is no way to know if you have this coronavirus unless you have actually been tested.

So even if you follow every single good act of hygiene and have zero symptoms you WILL shed this virus if you have it because good hygiene does not prevent 100% of the shedding. I feel fine, I am not in a high risk group, I have not been around a person known to have been exposed or known to have tested positive. But there's at least a decent chance I am infected and one of the many lucky ones who will experience no symptoms. You think for a second I would take a trip back to Indiana right now for a visit with my 90 year old dad? Not on your life.

I also don't know why they don't understand the concept of the value of LIMITING contact. I need to go to get food and crucial household supplies. I don't need to hang out in bars. Not every encounter if I am a carrier (and we know I very well could be based on everything we know) will mean I shed enough virus to infect a person I come into contact with. If it took 2 encounters for me to infect a random person but I cut out the non-essential contact (spending time at the local TGIFridays) maybe I don't infect anyone, and if everyone does that it becomes not a maybe but statistically a certainty that we would cut infections in half.

It shocks and saddens me that despite the relative simplicity of what needs to happen is lost on people. It shocks and saddens me even more that it appears to be in large part divided along lines of political affiliation.

I said when this first started that it was gonna be a problem keeping it under control in this country. "No one tells me what I can and can't do. This is 'Murica!! Freedumsss!!!!"

Don't go out just to prove a point, but also don't avoid going out because of fear, if that makes sense, you know?

No. Don't go out because it's the smart thing to do.

It's not fear, it's using your ****ing brain, and having some consideration for your fellow citizens.

The Trump administration has been working to relax regulations governing America’s nursing homes, including rules meant to curb deadly infections among elderly residents.
The main federal regulator overseeing nursing homes proposed the rule changes last summer, before the coronavirus pandemic highlighted the vulnerability of nursing homes to fast-spreading diseases. The push followed a spate of lobbying and campaign contributions by people in the nursing-home industry, according to public records and interviews.

Last July, the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, or C.M.S., set in motion a plan to weaken rules imposed by the Obama administration that required every nursing home to employ at least one specialist in preventing infections. The proposed rules — which the agency is completing and has the power to enact — eliminate the requirement to have even a part-time infection specialist on staff. Instead, the Trump administration would require that anti-infection specialists spend “sufficient time at the facility.”

Critics say the proposed requirement is so vague that it would be essentially meaningless — and dangerous.
“It adds up to less time, less infection control,” said Anthony Chicotel, a staff lawyer for California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform. He said the proposed change was “alarming.”
