Covfefe-19: Do What Now?

Wasn't there a story out not long about suggesting the majority of CEOs are sociopaths?

I make no claims to the veracity of it nor whether or not there's an equal % of them in every social level...

Not a majority, but 4-12%. Doesn’t seem like a lot, except the general population is 1%.

Prisoners are around 15%.

Re: Covfefe-19: Do What Now?

I've got a 20 pack (partial) of 3M N95 masks sitting here next to my desk for woodshop work. After reading about the doc in CT who drove 3 hours to fetch 10 of these, I'm wondering if I should steal them and send them to someone as a donation, wait for the virus to hit locally, or hide them for my actual job. I've had a couple people eyeing them up, possibly with ebay in mind.

I have two left from yardwork this past fall. We've thought about donating, but we've decided to hold onto them since my wife works in a hospital. If she gets sick and I need to care for her, I need to take every precaution I can. I know this is selfish, but my prospects aren't rosy if I get it.

We have a plan on how to use, disinfect, and reuse them if necessary, as risky as that is. I've been fitted and trained on how to use them properly as part of my job. We've already planned what to do if either of us gets sick. We've set up separate rooms for both of us stocked with a few days of clothes so we can immediately isolate and still keep moving.

If I had a couple dozen, I'd ask my Dr. brother where to send them. Though, I am sure all production has been secured and sold to the feds or state agencies. They are getting the first supply of them I'm sure. And I know more are being made 24/7 and at maximum line speed.

Re: Covfefe-19: Do What Now?

It's just derelict that Trump didn't have a couple million of these to go back in January.

Ben Kavanaugh is an Irishman who was teaching in Wuhan when the virus broke out. Locked down. Quarantined.

He and other EU nationals were evacuated to Europe, eventually landing in London. They were kept at a hotel for two weeks. Lockdown. Quarantined.

Now Ben is back home in Dublin and sure enough... Lockdown. Quarantined.

Ironically he's talked to friends from Wuhan and the lockdown there has ended.

I'm 99% sure my company was at 100%+ capacity starting in early, early January. Maybe earlier. Probably earlier. The employee store pulled back all stock and stopped sales by like Jan 15.

But you're right, existing supplies should have been confiscated* by the governments immediately after the first signs of domestic spread in January. Pull back all stock from Home Depot, Lowes, etc.

*Secured, requisitioned, or whatever more appropriate word should be used. Obviously compensation paid.

All of Illinois on lockdown. Shelter-In-Place order being issued right now.

Re: Covfefe-19: Do What Now?

Starts Saturday March 21st at 5pm. Remains in effect until April 7th.

Re: Covfefe-19: Do What Now?

It was 70+° out today so decided to play 9 holes at the local muni. No carts were available so everyone had to walk (Yea!).

No water, no ball washers, no sand rakes and the cups were raised so you didn't have to tend the flag.

Course was busy but everyone was keeping their distance.

Target spending $300 million to combat virus. Includes $2/hr pay hike, additional bonuses of $250 to $1,500. All to hourly employees.

I keep this link on my desktop at work. Whenever I feel the least bit sorry for myself I click it.

Slavery never ended. It was just optimized under capitalism.

jfc, thanks for the downer!

This kind of story makes me think of the reaction you get when watching some sci-fi movie in which an alien race is threatening to wipe the human race from existence, and you're into it and you want to say, "F##k you, we're going to band together and kick your a##", to instead think, "yeah, we f###ing deserve it, kill us all".

But that would have alerted the public, tanked the stock market (before they all had their stock trades squared away) and hurt his precious numbers.

Whitmer now taking it under consideration, after talking to Cuomo, Newsome, and Pritzker. I now expect Michigan will join the lockdown by Monday at the latest.

Today, I applied at Aldi and Domino's Pizza. I'm also applying at Meijer and residential support homes.

I wonder if I can at least take myself to work in that circumstance.

It will depend on what they classify as essential or emergency workers. If you're part of the food/supply chain I'd expect you'd be deemed essential.

Weird that a couple weeks ago society looked down on fast food workers and now society is dependent upon them. Maybe the guy flipping burgers is worth more than minimum wage after all?

Re: Covfefe-19: Do What Now?

My Trumpist colleague, who has been shopping like mad the last couple of weeks based on the sage advice of a Facebook meme called something like "buy bullets and beans" is planning a neighborhood watch schedule with his buddy, they both have AR-15s and they will be marching the road armed, in case they see anyone who's body they can later identify as a probable looter.

People are getting a little anxious.

Back to my point about who is panicking. Rational people who are doing their best to prevent spread who are being accused of panicking are acting calmly. The people accusing the public of panicking are actually starting to panic for fake reasons. Seems like they still don't get the idea that people get sick.

BTW, I'm aware of two people in your area that are sick, probable COVID19, worked at a local large market. No chance of them getting tests. On the other hand, where they are now is about as isolated from others as you can get.
