Re: Covfefe-19: Do What Now?

Nope. That has also been out for weeks. Just because the olds are more likely doesn't mean the youngs aren't having demise. And there are reported pockets of this being more common.

Nurses in Mass, even at big hospitals, on the news reporting unsafe practices, rationing of PPE, being told to re-use masks, and changes in protocols. Other than being in extremis not a good time to be in a hospital. If you don't enter in that state you are going to be in it due to iatrogenic causes.

I guess I stupidly wanted to believe that it wasn't as deadly as some people were saying. And usually I am as pessimistic as it gets.

Re: Covfefe-19: Do What Now?

Bloomberg says that according to Italy, 99% of those killed had underlying health problems.
The new study could provide insight into why Italy's death rate, at about 8% of total infected people, is higher than in other countries. The Rome-based institute has examined medical records of about 18% of the country's coronavirus fatalities, finding that just three victims, or 0.8% of the total, had no previous pathology. Almost half of the victims suffered from at least three prior illnesses and about a fourth had either one or two previous conditions. More than 75% had high blood pressure, about 35% had diabetes and a third suffered from heart disease.

I'll be curious to see what the exact risk is. Take asthma, how many people recover vs. don't. How does that compare to people without asthma? Obviously everything is tied together, but what's the increased risk? (Rhetorical)

Agreed.

JimJamesAK, does everything take forever to get to Alaska, like news and the internet? In the midst of seeing what's gone on in Washington state and New York state, your representative is still making light of this virus.
JFC what an idiot. *facepalm*

Alaska is definitely in the midst of this. In fact, I’d wager we were first hit but the lack of testing and response is keeping our numbers low.

I feel the same way about the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the Northwoods of Wisconsin. It's there, but the lack of testing (or the shrug off of "well, it ain't 'the flu,' but a variation of the flu," is artificially keeping the numbers down/non-existent.

Re: Covfefe-19: Do What Now?

Ha! That TP stockpile makes sense now! :D

I picked up four bottles of pedialyte plus back in early February just because I saw something like 10% might have diarrhea and it's good for when someone is not able to drink much because they're sleeping, coughing, or don't have the energy. Glad I did.

https://www.propublica.org/article/senator-dumped-up-to-1-6-million-of-stock-after-reassuring-public-about-coronavirus-preparedness?fbclid=IwAR0xKpstVNkPxJaUhuIoHYyRZMfYtbuo8ZIDW0pxCMvUZBXv_SL6MLbTRvI

Soon after he offered public assurances that the government was ready to battle the coronavirus, the powerful chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Richard Burr, sold off a significant percentage of his stocks, unloading between $582,029 and $1.56 million of his holdings on Feb. 13 in 29 separate transactions.

As the head of the intelligence committee, Burr, a North Carolina Republican, has access to the government’s most highly classified information about threats to America’s security. His committee was receiving daily coronavirus briefings around this time, according to a Reuters story.

A week after Burr’s sales, the stock market began a sharp decline and has lost about 30% since.

We need to bring back firing squads.

Mayor Lightfoot out here sounding calm, informative, and direct to the City of Chicago and the suburbs.

What a 180 from a mere six hours ago with Trump addressing the nation.
