Cops: No Snarky Nor Positive Title

The Right is oddly quiet about this.

Two men were arrested and charged with assaulting U.S. Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, who died following the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.

The two men -- Julian Elie Khater and George Pierre Tanios -- were both arrested on Sunday. They both face nine counts related to the Capitol attack, including assaulting Officer Brian Sicknick with a chemical irritant.

Here's Tanios in happier days, operating "Sandwich U."

A nightmare scenario': Extremists in police ranks spark growing concern after Capitol riot.

Democratic Member of Congress from Maryland Jamie Raskin has been sounding the alarm:

A street alliance among right-wing paramilitary forces, law enforcement and demagogic politicians has been a hallmark of fascism for a century, so the involvement of multiple law enforcement officers from across the country in waging the Jan. 6th insurrection against the Capitol and the Congress is a warning sign of danger for our democracy

I have been posting my concerns about white supremacists taking over police departments all over the country for years now. This is a problem that is far worse than most people are comfortable admitting. Mayors, many of them Democrats, seem paralyzed and unable or unwilling to truly confront the issue.

I would estimate that 9 out of every 10 times a white cop kills a person of color, that homicide is based in not just racism but full fledged white supremacy. It isn't a lack of or improper training. Police killing black men (and arresting black men for that matter) is just the modern day night riders of the KKK.

"Taking over"?

Think about the record of the police for the last century. They have always been dominated by the hard right, and thus by white supremacists.

These are the guys who were so bad even the army wouldn't take them.

Duh.

Next you'll be telling me Republican and conservative chat groups are filled with racism, misogyny, and poor grammar.

Yet people give me side eye when I tell them that in general, the LGBT community and cops have never been at peace with each other.

Anybody with the slightest familiarity with LGBTQ history understands exactly what you mean.

The cops are authoritarians who prey on out groups. LGBTQ have always been othered. Ergo...

I've had the george floyd trial on between mtgs. The judge seems to be very good at keeping the witnesses between the guardrails. Glad they're broadcasting this.

Are people still watching the trial? I’ve only been following the news and headlines. From those, it looks like all of the senior MPD officers are have found the ink blot in the Thin Blue Line and it was Chauvin.

I am only watching summaries. The ones I have been watching have been saying the Defense is as incompetent as... O. J.'s

So take that FWIW.

His defense is fine from what I have read. He doesn't have much to work with so all he can do is go after credibility and "being a cop is hard". That won't play well but he has to try.

Chauvin is gonna go down hard unless the jury is asleep.

It sounds like the entire defense is going to depend upon the medical testimony as to whether the lack of oxygen to the brain was triggered by Chauvin's actions or the drugs in Floyd's system, and what can the defense get the jury to believe.

I think a more interesting question will be answered later, when we see whether the cops that have testified against Chauvin are willing to also do so against the other three.

"There was no poison on that rag."

I mean the lawyer has to try. He can't just stand up and say "yeah...he did it lock him up!".

I honestly think as soon as Chauvin is convicted you will see the other three plead out...
