More than 100 police agencies are withdrawing from agreements to send personnel to bolster security at next month’s Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee, in part because they’re concerned about a recent directive ordering police in the city to stop using tear gas to control crowds.

A citizen oversight commission last week directed Milwaukee’s police chief to publicly account for why the department used tear gas during protests in late May and early June after the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis and to change Milwaukee’s police policies to ban the use of tear gas and pepper spray. The Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission said in its order that Police Chief Alfonso Morales could be fired if he fails to comply.

That order came amid intense scrutiny of police tactics at protests in Portland, Oregon, and elsewhere.

Since the Milwaukee order was issued, more than 100 law enforcement agencies in Wisconsin and across the country decided against coming to Milwaukee, Morales told WTMJ-TV on Tuesday. They were concerned with directives placed on the police department, including not allowing tear gas or pepper spray, he said.

The convention, scheduled for Aug. 17-Aug. 20 at the Wisconsin Center in downtown Milwaukee, has been scaled down to a mostly virtual event, with only about 300 people expected to attend in-person. Most of the speeches will be delivered online from other locations, though former Vice President Joe Biden has said he will be in Milwaukee to accept the nomination. Despite the event’s smaller scale, police are preparing for potentially large protests in and around the venue.

So who exactly are you afraid of not being able to tear gas? If you had brain one in that cro-magnon brain you would use the excuse the event was small enough not to need you there. But since that takes thought and reason you went with the "We wont be there unless we have the right to gas people we dont like" excuse.

"something something...social workers...something something...riots and violence!!"

Apparently Minneapolis cops now know who the guy is who broke into the Autozone during the protests and lead to it being burned down...and surprise surprise he is linked to White Supremacist groups.
 
NYPD pulled a Trans person into an unmarked van (like 4 or 5 of them) and arrested them for what amounted to putting stickers on security cameras.

The above is their statement trying to act like they were provoked by bottles being thrown and a bunch of other incidents. If you scroll through the comments you will see the video of what happened.

And surprise, surprise, he was not the cop all of your twitter friends were convinced he was.
 
So I guess now any group of armed men can just drive up to anyone on the street and whisk them away in unmarked vans?

We knew that months ago. Try and keep up old man. (and none of my friends believed it anyways though I know what you are implying)

You dont get to claim "gotcha" when even the people you are trying to catch admitted they were wrong like 3 days after they said it.

But hey...congrats on being right it wasnt a cop. Methinks though you and your friends probably didn't think it was a White Supremacist though. I bet you thought it was one of them crazies you hate who want Social Workers to help instead of cops in that oh so witty way you joke about. Guess what though...the other incident I posted about proves that cops arent equipped to handle non-violent crime. (it takes 5 fully armed cops in an unmarked van to arrest 1 rather petite looking unarmed person because they put stickers on a friggin security cameras?) You know who would do a better job...I will let you say it so you can pretend you are landing a clever quip and giggle to yourself.

I don't recall a lot of mea culpas around here regarding the St. Paul cop thing, but honestly, I'm too lazy to go back and look. That said, if everyone knew two months ago it wasn't a cop, I'm a little surprised that it took you guys this long to identify him as a white supremacist, since white guys committing crimes are either cops or white supremacists, according to most.

But I am glad you brought up cops and the performance of their jobs. How are we coming on those big changes to the Minneapolis police department? I see the Charter Commission is about to kick you guys to the curb. So what will the final victory tally be? A "substantial" $1.5 million cut to a $165 million police budget, a policy banning choke holds, and maybe a citizens committee or two?

The Charter Commission must be pretty scared of how the vote is going to come out if they are going to possibly shoehorn their own attempt at reform on the ballot. thank you so much for the concern though...you might want to check with the cops though they seem to the ones worried.

I can't get your link to work.

I'm not sure what "facts" you are referring to, but an hour ago the StarTrib reported that the working committee of the Charter Commission recommended to keep it off the ballot in November.
