Cops: No Snarky Nor Positive Title

I see the children on the Minneapolis City Council finally got called before the adults to answer some questions about their plan to "defund" the Minneapolis Police Department.

"If investing money in the disadvantaged communities is the solution to resolving crime, instead of policing, why hasn't that investment been made?"

(crickets)

"If we need to substantially reduce the number of police officers in the City of Minneapolis, and if the current charter only mandates 730 officers, why do you have 892, and why haven't you reduced that number to 730, which you can do without a vote of the people or change in the charter?"

Are you really that dense? Up until recently, taking money from cops at all was going to be a major problem, especially because the cop union would cry murder anytime cuts happen. Just like now.

Essentially the cops had a larger say in funding stuff just because they can extort via fear. Now we understand that the fear isn't being fearful of each other, we should be fearful of the cops- since they are doing damage when they claim not to.

And it's constantly nice to see that you take the word "defund" as quite literal as opposed to changing the structure that other cities have done- with massive success. Not only do you take it quite literally, you also do the typical r fear tactic of going to the extreme that defund = elimination.

Grow up, and see that there's a problem. If you can't see that there's a problem with the cops, given the constant abuse on the public- particularly minorities- then perhaps we should just ignore your points. Unless you think that carrying a counterfeit cash is a capitol offense that does not require a judge and jury. Or just walking home with a mask on. Or just walking home.

You are smarter than that...stop it you make yourself look friggin ignorant.

That's what the council was asked by the Commission, and pretty much the Council's response. It is not something I am making up.

Everything that I've posted about the process, from the very first time someone suggested Minneapolis was going to defund the police, has turned out to be true. You've thus far had a very difficult time admitting that. I can't help you there.

The fact that these clowns had to come in and try to answer some very difficult, but pretty obvious, questions isn't my fault.

What’s going on in St Paul tonight? All highway patrol (including my neighbor) told to get to Capitol with full riot gear.

This will not be read by enough people with open minds.

Arthur Rizer is a former police officer and 21-year veteran of the US Army, where he served as a military policeman. Today, he heads the criminal justice program at the R Street Institute, a center-right think tank in DC. And he wants you to know that American policing is even more broken than you think.

“That whole thing about the bad apple? I hate when people say that,” Rizer tells me. “The bad apple rots the barrel. And until we do something about the rotten barrel, it doesn’t matter how many good... ...apples you put in.”

Policing in this country is almost hopelessly messed up. In my opinion it will take an almost Apollo program level of commitment to fix it given the number of police departments and law enforcement officers in the country, as well as the fact that a sizeable number of people (maybe a majority?) do not understand just how broken policing is.

I think if we were able to reform and eliminate (or at least greatly lessen) the systemic racism that is prevalent in our criminal justice system we would almost be home as far as dismantling the systemic racism in our society. Yes barriers to housing, education, healthcare and employment must come down too, but racism in the criminal justice system impacts all of that deeply as well.

So its okay for a bakery to not make a cake for a gay couple, but its not okay for a hamburger joint to refuse service to the police?

Doesn't surprise me..

Nope.

This is like the pharmacist refusing to fill the birth control script. You have a job. You're at work. Do your effing job.

That misses the point completely. They weren't wearing masks. They can DIAF like any "little people" regular citizen. They don't get special privileges cause they got a badge for doing sh-tty on the SATs.

This isn't the point either. It isn't okay for a hamburger joint to deny service to the cops just for being cops. But that isn't what the employees said happened. What the cops say happen is not important because they are proven to lie to cover their as-ses all the time.

Had I left and then returned wearing a mask, do you think they would have refused me service the second time I entered the building?

I don’t think they would’ve. This was entirely about them being cops. They’re PITA teenagers sticking it to The Man using whatever thin excuse they had handy.
