Cops: No Snarky Nor Positive Title

If at first you dojn't succeed, try, try again. Cop who murdered Tamir Rice once again tried to worm his way back into law enforcement. I guess the pull of being able to shoot people who are darker than you is really strong.

How hard is it to do a background check that reveals who this guy is? I mean can't anyone with a fucking computer and internet connection just google his name?

This is the at least the second police department to hire this idiot since he was fired by the Cleveland Division of Police. And Cleveland hired him after his previous employer told him to resign or they would fire him, citing his emotional immaturity and his inability to qualify with his firearm. (he was literally less than 5 feet from Tamir Rice when he blew him away for the crime of playing with a toy gun while black, and for that you don't need to be much of a good shot)

If the Legislature made that a crime, it'd be a crime. But you do bring up a most curious example. Not sure why you leapt to "union".

I explicitly stated in my post why I used it. And you didn't answer the question. Are you suggesting that we criminalize certain non-criminal actions, such as anti-union actions? Or are you suggesting that cops should get away with anti-union acts without repercussion? None of this bullshit "if its a crime, it'd be a crime" nonsense.

I assume this is one of those things where the bright ones want gun control but the rank & file Barney Fifes wants pew pews and freedumb.

There's plenty of cognitive dissonance going on, too. I had to sit through an active shooter training put on by a state patrol officer a few years back. He spent a decent chunk of time explaining how situations are chaotic and they can't tell aggressors from defenders and anyone with a gun may be seen as a suspect, etc.

Then promptly turned around during the Q&A at the end and said he supports good guys with guns and personally doesn't like the ban on them in public buildings.

Easy to say he supports arming people when he's the only one in a uniform and near blanket immunity from firing wildly into the crowd.

Sure he supports arming people. Someone has to take down the bad guys while the cops are huddling outside the door, afraid to go in.

That's why arming teachers is so necessary. The same teachers they accuse of indoctrinating and grooming your kids when they aren't doing the cops' job for them.

This would be comical if it weren't dealing with something that was deadly -- literally -- serious.

Five bystanders were injured when officers shot and wounded a man who allegedly pointed a handgun at police

Cops in Uvalde stand around contemplating how to get away with harrassing the next black man they see for an hour as kids die. Cops in Las Vegas stand around for an hour as a gunman continues to mow down concert-goers. Cops in Parkland Florida cower behind cars as kids are shot and killed. Yet someone who initial reports said had no law enforcement or military training finds the courage and has the skill to engage an active shooter and take him down before he can turn an Indiana mall into an even worse horror scene.

No I am not advocating the "good guy with a gun" myth. What happened in Indiana is likely nothing more than the exception that proves the rule that good guys with guns do nothing to make mass shootings less likely. But this much is clear, at their best cops appear to be fucking useless. At their worst, they shoot multiple innocent people while trying to take down one lone gunman. And yes, it was the cops firing that injured the bystanders as reports noted the gunman did not fire his weapon. The world is quite literally upside down.

... but they got the perp too, so what's the problem?

My refrain used to be "when seconds count, the police are only minutes away." I was naive and brainwashed then, thought the cops meant well but were tasked with too many things. Now my refrain is simply "the police are fucking useless."

We get less bang for the buck with law enforcement than we do with any other public dollar we spend. Yet in many communities spending on law enforcement is often the single largest expenditure. In some it is more than half of all money spent. I want to know why most people are not up in arms about this.

Police patrolling has been shown to be ineffective at preventing crime. Police "clear" a minority of crimes people even bother to report (and clear in this sense DOES NOT mean solve). Their misconduct and dereliction of duty is rampant, as has been shown time and time again, leading to tragedies both large and small. People bi t ch all the time about teacher's pensions, but why do these same people not hold the same view about cop pensions, which in many states can pay an officer virtually the same in retirement that was earned in their most lucrative years of working? Often for DECADES in retirement!

You can believe law enforcement on the whole provides a necessary and vital service to the community all you want. Fine. But why then are more people willing to believe this service is vital and necessary but are willing to let community after community p iss billions down a hole for nothing? Jesus are we one fucked up society.

Careful with that wording....

That is *exactly* the argument that gun nuts make for why they need their AR-15s - so they can protect their families when cops can't. They are, quite literally, up in arms about this. :-)

(I know that's not what you meant)

probably an unintentional intentional use of it on my part. And only an idiot would ever consider an AR-15 to "protect" their family. I've felt highly protected with my Colt Python, a full cylinder and an HKS speedloader if more than 6 rounds were needed (if you need more, you shouldn't own a gun) and now even more so with my Glock 19. And I've never owned more than one firearm at once, and they never leave my house other than when purchased or when going to a range.

Firearm owners like myself have done an awful job of cultivating the right attitudes among other firearm owners. We should have been pushing back more as more and more of our fellow firearms owners fell hard down the rabbit hole. Now it's too late. Hell, I do not even feel comfortable going to most gun ranges anymore (have not found one since moving back to OH that isn't overrun with trump humpers and other MAGAts) so I don't even think the problem can be fixed, short of ouright bans and confiscation.

Of course I am talking about banning and confiscation of items I don't own and never would even want to touch. I guess to some extent, that makes me a hypocrite. Something I wrestle with more and more when it comes to firearms.
