I gave advice on what to do.
But now I have a more modern position.
I play the maids in prime-time, too.

I played the maid who has a hearty laugh.

And why was he being a dick? because he could. Simple as that. Those people needed to respect his authoritah, or else they get learned how to.

I assume that got written up as assault on a police officer.

Cops are no different about having exaggerated ideas about themselves. And now on top of that add in that white esprit de corps is minimal or even frowned upon while cop esprit de corps is maximal and highly encouraged. That siege mentality means cops have enormous incentive to see themselves as not blameworthy. Soldiers who commit or condone atrocities are the same. Hovey's not a jerk, he's just a human being who comes out of a particular POV-forging experience which most of us don't share. Something something cast the first stone something.

Not a cop. Never been a cop. I remember playing one once as an eight year old, though.

I've never said policing is perfect or without need for some significant changes. But when a halfwit with a bullhorn stands up in a public park and chants "Defund the Police," and two hours later that becomes public policy for some political leaders, or when they think they can wave a magic wand and just wish the current police department away and replace it with squads of social workers who are going to go out and solve all of the community's law enforcement problems by getting people to talk about their feelings, yeah I'm going to come on here and write some posts mocking that.

I'm glad to see that even the Minneapolis City Council has realized that getting rid of the police department is a stupid idea.

I honestly don't think there are easy ways to solve this problem. I don't think throwing money and minority communities will necessarily solve it, although those communities could certainly use additional funding and assets. I don't think getting rid of the Bob Kroll's of the world solves it, because unions are always going to elect the most strident among them to be their bulldog.

I don't even think that getting rid of unions or making it a lot easier to fire cops will solve the problem. We've tried a million times things like civilian review boards, and they always get run over.

I think it was during the Ferguson events when I first posted this, and I know I've posted it regarding sexual assault cases, but I think a major problem is the refusal of prosecutors to charge anyone except those where they think they have a slam dunk case, or those where intense public pressure forces their hands. Prosecutors have to be less concerned about their 95% conviction rate and more concerned about charging people they think committed a crime. So what if you lose half the cases. If you win half, that's some bad cops you'll take off the streets, even if you only get them on a lesser charge. Any sort of felony will knock them out of law enforcement.

You seem much more concerned about someone using a bullhorn to say a catchy phrase than the police using significantly violent measures.
 
He's taking the philosophical view. When a cop murders a black guy we can't help the black guy, he's dead. But we can soothe the cop's feelings.

Won't somebody think of the feelings?
 
The trauma that cop has to go through, a guy dying at his own hands. How can someone be expected to go on with their life normally after such a horrifying event?

He should really be entitled to some compensation from the black guy's family for putting him through this.
