We used to have that sort of justice, it left a lot of people swinging in the wind. Great system.

That isnt what I meant and you know it. I dont want vigilante justice but for christ sakes the judge being removed from the bench does not even warrant a guffaw compared to what he did. People treat their pets better than he treated a citizen of the United States in a court of law.

Put it this way...how does his punishment deter other justices from doing the same thing? Hell with such a weak penalty I would be more apt to threaten it in the future because with no real repercussions no will doubt my resolve.

You seem to underestimate how much the average judge cherishes its place on the bench.

His career is done. Over. There will probably be no place for him in anything gov-related, something he has worked for his entire life, probably. That is a big hit IMO. More severe than the fine/etc.

He's 72. He's presumably made his bucks, and should've retired by now if his first reaction to dealing with insubordinate petty crooks is to give them 50,000 volts.

Seriously...I feel like I am taking crazy pills. Oh no he lost his job HE FLIPPING ELECTROCUTED A GUY IN COURT FOR TALKING!! (no threats, no weapons not even acting in a disorderly manner literally talking) He didnt swear at him or say something racist he put a shock collar on the guy and flipped the friggin switch. But sure I bet his life is just in shambles now that he has been kicked off the bench...at 72  How will he ever recover from the harsh hand of justice pimpslapping him?

Hey I will forgo my job and pay a fine if I can electro shock people that annoy me...where do I sign up?

I was unaware he was that old.

What is the thing you'd do to be basically banished from the one thing you worked your whole life for?

Not saying what he did was right. It wasn't. Not in the least. But the punishment, at face value, was severe enough for me. It's not like he killed the guy.

Re: Cops 3: Shoot low boys -- they're ridin' Shetland ponies!

Jeezez I can't believe it's even up for debate. F##k him he has everything coming to,him for making such a stupid decision. Someone like that has zero business being such an important position.

Do you think you would get a piddly fine and probation if you did the same thing to DX cause he mouthed off to you? Methinks no. That is the problem. Loss of station is not punishment the guy deserves some jail time. He should be treated like anyone else. So on its face it doesnt come nearly close enough to me.

Its not like he killed the guy...yeah if he had done that I am sure some would actually justify what he did.

Hey goldy, take all day thinking that one up did ya? :p

It's a bit of apples and oranges there. No, I can't just walk up to someone and tase them.

No, he shocked him using a restraining tool that's place on (certain?) defendants when they're in court. Electrocuting the man would've killed him, and that would've warranted a different charge altogether. :p

When you're in court it's a different set of rules than what we have for interaction in the public square. My guess is that's why he wasn't charged with assault or battery rather than the civil rights violations, and why the court's deputy wasn't charged as well.

Those on the other side of the argument than I am insist that bad acts by cops are few and far between, and perpetuated by a minuscule minority of all cops. If so why are stories with videos like this so easy to find but no one seems to find stories and videos of cops behaving heroically and professionally. So many have dash and body cams that record their interactions, if the good stuff was happening all the time you'd think we'd be as overrun with good cop videos as we are of frat boys lighting their farts. Had this woman been a black teen aged male, would the outcome have been tragic instead of just annoying and illegal?

Good cops performing their duties for which they were hired don't have videos released featuring their actions. Bad actors make headlines.

Yet nearly every time these things happen, the cops (and other's whose first and often only response is a knee-jerk defense of what are often indefensible actions) tell us these actions are an isolated few, despite the overwhelming number of incidents such as this that are caught on video. If I wanted to defend my group of people and I had tons of video proof that they behave reasonably as the rule and not the exception, I think I'd start making that proof available for public consumption. Good police officers and good police departments know they are rapidly losing (and in some cities the war has been lost) public support. Public support is vital if the police are to do an effective job doing what we hire them to do. And I USED to be one of the people who did reflexively defend the police when they were accused of wrong doing. But over the last 15 or so years it has become more and more apparent that we are neither hiring the right people, nor offering the right training. In the face of overwhelming evidence that this is true, we do no one any favors (least of all the cops) when we just assume the bad actors make headlines because they are few.

4th precinct in MPLS has completely lost community support. Sucks, because it destroys the morale. The result is violent crime has gone up, arrests down. Recent article in the local paper has quotes from officers saying they feel like they can't do their job.

I hope it gets sorted out. The MPLS force has plenty of enemies. They can't lose the people that have supported them too.

When you spend your time camouflaging, extorting, and shooting first, of course the populace is going to think of you more as terrorists than peace-keepers. Oh, and to those saying "I'm just doing my job", you're only pouring fuel on the fire. If you want to make a difference, enough with the war games and start actually working with the populace.

I don't even know where to begin with this.
