I've had this discussion with my wife, who is unabashed cop supporter and thinks I hate all cops (I don't). It's not that every cop is bad, it's that the culture of police and police officers protect the bad ones and punish good ones. The blue shield, the blue line, they have the best "don't snitch" culture ever built. It's a terrible us against them culture. My wife uses the phrases that cops use like "protecting a brother" or calling Internal Affairs "the Rat Squad". It's like, that's the *ing problem! You can't have this us against them "brotherhood" or ostracize the people trying to fix the problems!

tl;dr It's the culture of police that's bad and needs to change.

This sounds like an unhealthy obsession with a group you know little about. Kinda like Republicans and blacks. :)

Although, to be fair, the culture on the other side with groups like BLM is just as bad (or worse in the case of people like Flaggy). An honest level of detente and discussion is really needed.

The almost auto response "you don't know anything about this" is an attempt to dismiss any criticism by essentially just denying any problem exists in the first place. And then it furthers the problem by attempting to deny the credibility of any "outsider" commenting on it. And then you throw in the lovely personal jab by calling me "obsessed." :rolleyes:

Problems with police culture and corruption and the like are well documented and well publicized. You do not need to be a police officer to know or comment about it. And to attempt to restrict the discussion to only police not only comfirms but furthers the problem.

It's similar to saying that only soccer officials should deal with the FIFA corruption problem.

I'll grant you, "obsession" was probably the wrong word. However the above is an equally big assumption of my view on your part. I never said any of the above.

The cops, obviously. I never excluded anyone from commenting about the current state of affairs based on whether or not you're a cop. I just pointed out that maybe, as an outsider who is neither a cop, nor a targeted minority, you know less than you think you do.

Chill out.

Post #2: For one thing, the cop’s shooting percentage would be sky-high.

Seriously, despite what the haters say, building relationships is what we did/do on a daily basis. Most times not with this much fun and without it being on YouTube. And not with a hall of famer along for the ride. :)

A first for my former department, and not a good one. :(

A Toronto Police officer has been found guilty of attempted murder in the 2013 shooting death of a troubled teen on an empty streetcar, an incident that sparked public outrage and street protests in the city.

After six days of deliberations, the 11-member jury cleared Const. James Forcillo of the more serious charge of second-degree murder in the death of 18-year-old Sammy Yatim in July 2013.

Om mobile so I don't have links, but CBS Chicago Radio (WBBM) news has had some updates this week:
- Chicago cops that shot and killed the kid on Boxing Day? Called 911 three times and the operator hung up on him each time thinking it was a joke.
- 41 murders, 40 via gun, in the Chicago city limits since the new year. A reminder that today is only the 27th day of the year.
- Oregon di**bag militia man, and purveyor of boxes of c*cks sent by Gawker, Bundy along with six of his cronies were arrested by the FBI yesterday while they drove to a neighboring town. One moron opened fire on the FBI and was shot. Bundy pulled a "Chicago Citizen" card and claimed the cops shot an unarmed man who was peacefully surrendering. A few fellow idiots are still holed up in the federal buildings.

I'm trying to wrap my head around how you can shoot and kill someone and be cleared of murder charges yet be found guilty of attempted murder. :confused:

edit: I see this particular oddity has been explained...
