Mother of the Year speaks

"He gave me eye contact. And at that point, you know, not even thinking about cameras or anything like that. That's my only son and at the end of the day I don't want him to be a Freddie Gray," Toya Graham said, referencing the 25-year-old man who died after mysteriously sustaining severe spinal injuries in police custody earlier in the month. His death has sparked protests throughout the city, with tensions boiling over.
"There's some days that I'll shield him in the house just so he won't go outside and I know that I can't do that for the rest of my life," said Graham. "I'm a no-tolerant mother. Everybody that knows me, know I don't play that."

It's that reputation that made her son wince the second he saw her. "He knew he was in trouble," said Graham. "He said when 'I seen you,' he said, 'ma, my instinct was to run.'" Graham says after she got her son home they both watched news coverage of the demonstrations and riots on television. As images of her reaction started to go viral, Graham says comments started appearing on her son's Facebook page, many in support of her. "Friends and everybody making comments and saying you know, you shouldn't be mad at your mother, you should give her a hug," said Graham.

Graham hopes the incident will serve as a teachable moment for her son.

MSNBC is supposedly the liberal answer to Faux "News" because of the prime time shows, but if you watch during the daytime it's almost as conservative as Faux. You think Mrs. Greenspan is spouting left-wing talking points? Never mind that the morning show is a former GOP congressman...
Have no idea if they've gotten better, but back when I was watching they had production values that would make high school A/V clubs blush.

i almost watch msnbc by default though. i can't watch cnn nor fox. so when stuff like this happens it is msnbc for mookie.

Baltimore Cop: I blame the department

I blame the department and let me tell you why. They praise rookie officers. They’ll go around making a 100 arrests a month, and they’ll praise them. These rookie officers will do anything to get an arrest because they want more praise, you know what I’m saying? This is the result of it. They arrested Gray for some bull****. That arrest was the weakest thing I’ve seen in my life. They do things like that and then what we see happening now happens. They can say anything to anyone to lock them up because they want an arrest. I don’t think they hurt him or messed him up, that’s what I truly think, but I do think they should have called a medic.

Another officer:
This is our city too, that’s the thing. We grew up here, our friends live here, our kids go to school here. I feel so badly for everyone who has been caught up in this just living their lives, just being in the place where they live and work. I was working all day and the first time I had the chance to check on anyone, you saw people you know crying, people sending messages and group-texts looking for their kids, stores you go to being robbed clean. Police or not, this hard to watch no matter what, even after being in it and then you see it from a different perspective when you go home. It’s so sad.

If it is available, I highly recommend the BBC or Al-Jazeera. Quality information without all the sensational BS that passes for news on American media.

Unfortunately, AJ as available in the US is typically only AJ America, which is heavily dumbed down.

Fortunately BBC has the entertainment arm (BBC America) and the news arm (BBC World News) on a separate network.

Orioles VP speaks out

“Brett, speaking only for myself, I agree with your point that the principle of peaceful, non-violent protest and the observance of the rule of law is of utmost importance in any society. MLK, Gandhi, Mandela, and all great opposition leaders throughout history have always preached this precept. Further, it is critical that in any democracy investigation must be completed and due process must be honored before any government or police members are judged responsible.

That said, my greater source of personal concern, outrage and sympathy beyond this particular case is focused neither upon one night’s property damage nor upon the acts, but is focused rather upon the past four-decade period during which an American political elite have shipped middle class and working class jobs away from Baltimore and cities and towns around the U.S. to third-world dictatorships like China and others, plunged tens of millions of good hard-working Americans into economic devastation, and then followed that action around the nation by diminishing every American’s civil rights protections in order to control an unfairly impoverished population living under an ever-declining standard of living and suffering at the butt end of an ever-more militarized and aggressive surveillance state.

The innocent working families of all backgrounds whose lives and dreams have been cut short by excessive violence, surveillance, and other abuses of the Bill of Rights by government pay the true price, an ultimate price, and one that far exceeds the importance of any kids’ game played tonight, or ever, at Camden Yards. We need to keep in mind people are suffering and dying around the U.S., and while we are thankful no one was injured at Camden Yards, there is a far bigger picture for poor Americans in Baltimore and everywhere who don’t have jobs and are losing economic civil and legal rights, and this makes inconvenience at a ball game irrelevant in light of the needless suffering government is inflicting upon ordinary Americans.”

Re: Cops 2: Pay No Attention to the Rioters Behind the Curtain

Apparently the curfew was merely a suggestion. Now more people are showing up, not wanting to go home. These friggin' idiots just don't get it. Time to use force. This is just stupid.

Re: Cops 2: Pay No Attention to the Rioters Behind the Curtain

Nope. Couldn't do it. Fox was harassing elijah Cummings. It was pathetic.

I'm sure that will clear everything up quite nicely and won't create more issues.
