Convention junkies can obsess details here!

Re: Convention junkies can obsess details here!

Good news for those of you caught in the dilemma of having to choose betweent he Democratic National Convention and the MTV VMA show:

MTV to move up the VMAs 1 hour so they don't conflect with President Obama's acceptance speech!

Whew! I was worried there for a bit! :)

Clearly MTV is in league with those trying to re-elect his Pander-racist-socialist-muslim-ness. I don't know how the libstains live with themselves in the face of such collusion. ;)

9.5. You forgot "baby killers." ;)

Andrew Cuomo threw his tiara and went home -- I guess he wanted to be a speaker. :)

Re: Convention junkies can obsess details here!

The economic points they brought up made sense given that the convention for an incumbent is about stressing the positive difference between the incumbent's record and the opposition's plan. So we got Rust Belters reminding the voters about saving the auto industry (also a natural for "contrast," given Romney's editorial about letting it fail), and lots of mentions of 29 straight months of economic growth. They can't push too hard on economics or they are open to the charge of not caring about people who are still unemployed, or of being out of touch with the real economy -- Bush Senior is a cautionary tale.

The whole breathless "will Bill go off the reservation?" story seems obviously ginned up to create buzz (probably by Bill himself). It is kinda funny they stuck him opposite the NFL season opener, though. Just a little reminder that the Obama camp has no illusions about the Clintons. Even when they are useful, it is vital to remember they are not your friend.
As others have pointed out, Slick has to walk a very fine tighrope. He has to dim his own bulb while making El Presidente the Messiah. If he wants to play naughty he says something like "the last time America had a balanced budget was under a Democratic administration!" The people will cheer and El Presidente will be loading the sniper rifle.

That would actually be a really funny line. :D (It would also be the kind of self-serving thing the Clintons seem to have a irrepressible need to do).

I think this is Bill wanting to have Just One More Turn in front of a huge, fawning crowd. Banging Near Abroad stewardesses three at a time in the champagne room at the Clinton Foundation probably gets boring after a few years.

Speaking of huge, fawning crowds, Obama's just got a lot smaller.

Liz Warren is way too intense to be a public official. She's right, but she's '80's style hectoring right. It doesn't sell.

Love how people on Facebook are complaining about the DNC getting coverage during halftime. People would rather watch Honey Boo Boo and football over watching conventions. No wonder this country is going to hell in a handbasket.

Clinton's speech is great. It's also a bit depressing because from the standpoint of content and intellect it reminds us of what political speech was as recently as the late 90's.

This. Michelle's was very good though. We'll see what Obama can do tomorrow.

Re: Convention junkies can obsess details here!

Wow!

Slick Willy's still got it. Great speech.

Wish he could run again...

Re: Convention junkies can obsess details here!

I'd vote for Slick Willy in a heart beat. The one guy who makes me think twice about having presidential term limits.

Re: Convention junkies can obsess details here!

Any reservations Clinton had due to 2008 disagreements were washed away by memories of the GOP witch hunts of his last years.

I have no doubt that he was as behind this speech as one could be.

"No president, not me, not any of my predecessors, no one could have fully repaired all the damage that he found in just four years".

Where was Hillary? Making the world safe for 2016?

Yeah...at least we don't have another Rice. But in the end, Hillary had the same convention presence as all living GOP presidents...combined.

Where was Hillary? Making the world safe for 2016?

I believe she's in China.

Is it convenient that she's on the other side of the planet right now? For Obama's campaign AND her 2016 plans?

Sure. I'll give you that.
