Commitment List 2013

Re: Commitment List 2013

When the 8 skaters you have coming back combined for 72 points on a team that had 394 and the goalie you have returning played three games and a period of an exhibition, then you need to bring in enough guys to compensate for guys that don't pan out. It is almost like starting a brand new team a la Nazareth last year. Most of their 37 rostered players didn't see a lot of action. If any players really did ask for assurance on playing time from Eddie, they will not get it. When he recruits players he tells them they will have a fair opportunity to earn their time but no one gets time handed to them. You look at the recruiting classes from the last few years they were small. Last year the financial aid fiasco contributed but there weren't many spots open. This year pretty much everything except maybe the top D Pair of Gertsakis and Rivait will be up for grabs and players know that both knew and returning.

Re: Commitment List 2013

I once knew a coach who would tell a player anything he wanted to hear during the recruiting process. Power play..."sure"....free tix for your girlfriend and family "sure"....phantom job at the arena ...."sure thing"...He once recruited a kid and guaranteed him that the program would be Division I by the time he was a junior !!! That was 35 years ago and it still isn't !!! Needless to say, the kid left after scoring 52 points in 26 games as a freshman !!!

totally agree in that Gosek promised nothing to any player, current or new.Bottom line I would imagine is that he told all the players/recruits,we lost more than half the team and I am bringing in a lot of guys and all positions are up for grabs, and it is up to the player to make the team, it will start with the first day of dry land training and make for some serious competition.

Re: Commitment List 2013

I wouldn't want to be one of those 8 or 9 returning guys, especially if I was a 4th line type !! Is Gosek "over-recruiting" ?? That's a slippery slope if he is because word spreads quickly through the junior leagues. I think a fair question a recruit can ask is "how many guys are you bringing in?"....I've heard some of today's players asks for assurances of a lineup spot and even playing time !!!
I am sure they ask and they would be stupid if they didnt and I am sure he tells them straight up how many he plans to bring in,again how many show up is another thing.

Re: Commitment List 2013

yes got the confirmation,33 players on campus nice job.......
I must be missing some newbies - my number at the end of last week was 28...either way, the competition leading up to the first official practice will be fierce... and there is talk of a 4th keeper in that number. I will defer to those who know better...

Good bet that once they realize all the hot girls are taken and playing time may be optional, they could take the fall off on a beach in Mexico and resurface in....wait for it....Utica.

Re: Commitment List 2013

Looks like UWSP is going to have the same numbers problem, 19 returning and 11 recruits.

Re: Commitment List 2013

That's a load of new guys !! Doesn't look like a big-time scorer in there......lot's of grinder-types at least on paper. Good to see a kid from Massena, NY on the list. Massena was once the hockey hotbed of the east coast and produced dozens of DI players back in the day. Tiny town with numerous State Championships. My blind pick for future stardom for the Cadets is the defenseman LeBrun.

All the players coming out of the South Shore Kings like Kyle Thomas have been very good players. Another South Shore King playing for D1 Dartmouth is Nick Bligh. Must be some subtractions because Norwich normally doesn't carry more than 28 players. Will not take long to see how they do with Plymouth on the schedule November 1 and Castleton a few weeks after. Looking forward to an interesting year.

Re: Commitment List 2013

Lose five and bring in 14? Something doesn't add up. I really hate to see players brought in and then dumped a year or two later.
as with Oswego bringing in a whole bunch of recruits to fill the ranks I am sure these Norwich recruits know the deal when they are getting recruited, bottmline, make the team and you play they know how many recruits are coming in,I dont see Mcshane/Gosek/Emery telling these guys they have a spot, earn your way on the ice is what they are told, nothing is gaurrented in D3.After these players see that they are not playing they can stay at school or move on,plenty of guys transfer, see Curry:p
