College Hoops 2017. Hoosier Daddy? Wildcat strike? The Butler did it?

What did happen to that tourney? It just seems to have been lost in the mix of preseason tourneys that popped up in the last 15 years...
That's exactly it. When it was going strong there was only Maui, the NIT, and Puerto Rico. The NCAA allowed more tournaments with exceptions and the GAS got lost in the shuffle.

To be fair, UAA's small minded thinking prevented them from getting out ahead of it by doing something like partnering with ESPN and changing start times. If they had sold a percentage to ESPN or someone it might still be around.

Also, the Sullivan being a complete dumpster pile didn't help.

I'll miss it though. 95 to ~2002 or so had some awesome basketball.

Any reason why they didn't partner with ESPN? That's almost entirely the reason it will be discontinued, because ESPN started a bunch of their own tournaments. Even the Bahamas tournament started playing on ESPN, and that had more than enough money to be fine on NBC.

I just saw Chaminade is being kicked out of its own tournament now, too. Starting next year they will alternate years between playing in the "mainland" bracket and the "Maui" bracket. In the mainland bracket you get crushed by a big time school in the first game and then play a four team tournament at a mid major's arena.

I didn't hate Sullivan when I was there last year for hockey.

Obviously, they didn't need the tutoring.

I saw nothing but empty-headed, rich blondes from Orange County. They were, without doubt, and even including high school, the stupidest people I have ever met. (Also, to be fair, unbelievably cute. I really enjoyed my job.)

But, you know, "the Harvard of the West Coast."

My friend had an identical experience at Duke. None of these kids could think their way out of a paper bag let alone pass their entrance exams. Something was up. And they were hardly revenue sports so I can only imagine what happens when money is on the line.

This just reminds me of BASEketball:

Baxter Cain: Do you think Shaq got rich playing in Orlando? Hardly, he made his fortune moving to L.A. You know how much he makes now?

Douglas "Swish" Reemer: As much as he made playing in college?

So today was going to be the day they announced the UNC sanctions for running fake classes for 18 years...but had to reschedule. Here Is Why

Great stall tactic...I still dont see any chance they do to UNC what needs to be done. But I bet Cleveland State is quaking in their boots right now.

Fun story.

I have absolutely no doubt this is replicated at every FBS school with the possible exception of the military academies.

Not like that...this is stuff that gets accreditation pulled. This wasnt having some honor student write papers or take tests for players this was setting up almost an entire department worth of classes that anyone could take (not just athletes...hence why the NCAA balked at first) in order to get full degrees. This is fraud of a very high order...

And at best they will get a 1 year ban and get to keep their Titles since the NCAA doesnt have the balls to take down a blue blood like that. Ole Roy will skate just like Calhoun did and then some measly violation at UNC Greensboro will make them lose 12 scholarships or something so the NCAA can pretend they care.
