College Hockey and TV...

Re: College Hockey and TV...

Thanks for bringing this up, Osorojo, and for the detailed and irrefutable evidence that the NHL network made money from the broadcast of that game.

Didn't they basically take NESN's feed and broadcast it? That would minimal cost for the network and it probably made money since people who look to see what is on that network already love hockey and saw a live game. I can't think it would bring viewers that aren't hockey fans.

Ratings for some of the college hockey games on NBCSN:

January 6 - Dartmouth vs. RPI, 38,000 viewers
January 20 - Michigan vs. Notre Dame, 74,000 viewers
January 27 - Yale vs. Harvard, 82,000
February 3 - Cornell vs. RPI, 64,000 viewers
February 10 - Minnesota vs. Denver, 57,000 viewers
February 24 - Boston University vs. Vermont, 38,000 viewers
February 24 - North Dakota vs. Denver, 86,000 viewers

NHL Network did that last year with the games of RPI they broadcast; they just took the Time Warner feed.

For college hockey, that's actually not too bad, especially Yale/Harvard and UND/DU.
