Mountain West votes to expand, looks like they will bring in San Jose State and Utah State, giving them 12 teams and a conference championship game.
Jan. 25, 2011
LAS VEGAS, Nev. -
At the conclusion of its annual January meeting, the MWC Board of Directors issued the following statement.
"Over the past two days, the Board of Directors has engaged in a very thorough discussion of several key topics pertinent to the future of the Mountain West Conference. This has included, but not been limited to, issues related to television, the Bowl Championship Series and membership. The Board feels strongly the membership configuration already established going forward creates outstanding prospects for future success. In addition, we are continuing with our strategic initiatives related to our television partnerships and the MWC's efforts to effect change in the BCS structure. The Board is excited about what is undoubtedly a bright future for the Conference."
They are a pretty big deal in the Bay Area, believe it or not.
As a Bay Area native, I strongly disagree. Nobody cares about San Jose State. They struggle to put respectably crowds in their 30k stadium and get little media coverage. Maybe the South Bay shows some sort of interest, but St. Mary's hoops is arguably a bigger deal than Spartan football.

If heads dont roll down there after this then I give up. It is bad enough there is a drug problem down there, but when your workout program puts 13 kids in the hospital with serious issues then it is going too far. Ferentz, his staff and the U of Iowa are gonna be looking at major lawsuits when all is said in done no matter whether he is the coach in the future or not.
They dig deeper into Cam Newton, they would have had to dig deeper into all of the SEC. What USC and the PAC10 schools make for the NCAA is a lot less than what the SEC makes for the NCAA.So, Cam Newton's thing took a day, but they couldn't hear USC's appeal until late January. Which makes Signing Day strange because USC won't know how many scholarships they can give.
I hope you're not implying that the NCAA is in this for the money, instead of the well-being of the student athletes. That's just preposterous! They dig deeper into Cam Newton, they would have had to dig deeper into all of the SEC. They're not in it for the money. They're in it for a shatload of money.I hope you're not implying that the NCAA is in this for the money, instead of the well-being of the student athletes. That's just preposterous!

As much as the Gators suck balls, I'll have to give some credit to UF president Bernie Machen, who basically just called out the rest of the SEC sans Georgia as d-bags

The University of Wisconsin football team won't get a chance to avenge its loss to Texas Christian in the Rose Bowl to open the 2011 season — but both schools were approached about the idea by a third party.
UW coach Bret Bielema told Madison radio station WTSO-AM/1070 in an interview on The Mike Heller Show on Feb. 1 that he was approached about playing TCU at Camp Randall Stadium on Sept. 3.
"I was contacted probably a week, maybe a week and a half after the bowl game about the opportunity to play TCU in our opener," Bielema said on the show. "It was something that was going to be broadcast and made a big deal. It took me all of about point-five seconds to say, 'Yes.' "
"I would definitely love the challenge to play them again," Bielema added. "And really, I thought it would be a great sell with our folks. Unfortunately, TCU wasn't as excited about the matchup."
TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte on Wednesday confirmed to ESPNDallas.com a third party approached him about the game.
Del Conte also confirmed he declined the offer, but said it was because the Horned Frogs would not get a return game from UW as part of the deal.
Who is the third party?? One would have to think that a TCU-Wis rematch would do well at say Jerry World. So this is interesting.
I'm sure some will use this as evidence of TCU ducking a big school, but I totally think they are right to refuse it. Why should UW, who just got beat by TCU, feel like they can't deign to give TCU a return game?
