College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

John Junker, head guy of the Fiesta Bowl for practically forever, was very well thought of for many years here in Phoenix. But, as with so much of this, the public facade hides a lot of unseemly stuff going on. Some of the stuff they did is just ridiculous. Set up a scholarship fund for the grandson of a former Big 12 Commissioner? And on and on. Makes the actual sport a lot less fun and of interest when this stuff is so rife.

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

What's even funnier is the NCAA and Auburn have no comment.

I just wonder, what would happen if USC had actually paid their players or paid recruits? Death penalty right?

Duh. Having a professional football team in Los Angeles without the express written consent of the NFL is illegal.

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

I don't think they should take the Fiesta Bowl out of the BC$, but I would add the Cotton Bowl in because that game got shafted.

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

How is the answer to the Fiesta Bowl being a steaming pile of graft and corruption adding in a game that has JERRY JONES involved? To quote Orson from EDSBS, that's like getting too drunk to drive, then paying a cracked hobo to take the wheel.

Because he's not Al Davis? Other than that, I'm failing to see the answer too...

The man is almost 70, and I doubt Al Davis has let him sip from his Holy Grail. 15 years tops for him I would say. Plus, then we have the Bonus of all the graft that would be involved with a Texas location in the BCS mix, and could help bring down the whole bowl system as well.

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

Jim Tressel says he is sorry. Now that we know that we can move on to other things. Nothing more to see at Ohio State.

Ah. There's USC's problem. They never said they were sorry.

Has anyone at Auburn apologized yet? That would preclude any need to investigate further.

The SEC doesn't have to apologize to you. You should be lucky to watch their amazing football skills (that helped them go a whopping .500 in bowl games).

I'm ticked because I'm pretty sure Shawn apologized (at least as much as Tressel did) and the NCAA still came down on us like a ton of bricks. If only we'd been playing in the SEC instead of Hockey East.

That gives me an idea! Wonder if Bertagna would consider changing the conference name to SEC...

Did someone say bring down the bowl system? Now, I'm all for that.

The Super East Conference

The NCAA would let you get away with everything since the "SEC" acronym would confuse them. Brilliant idea!!!

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

I wonder if the NCAA will be impressed by him jumping on his sword. Normally, I'd say no and expect them to drop the hammer, but this is Ohio State football, so I expect them to commend Tressel - maybe even give him an award.

Maybe they could re-name the divisions in his honor: Legends and Cheaters?? Or, one of those great two named awards they have could be created in his honor: The Ron Meyer-John Calipari Coaching Award ??

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

What is your point? This has nothing to do with the Gophers it has to do with the fact that Tressel is dirty and has been since his days at Youngstown State.

Most decent teams can hang 50 on the Gophers :D

I know, I just wanted to rip on the Gophers. :p

To the contrary; bigblue_dl's point is perfectly appropriate. Grave dancing is an unflattering quality, especially when it's a pyrrhic victory.:p;)
